Problem starting up computer

Okay I got it all put together (my new computer). But I can't tell where the +/- on the SLED, PWR, HLED, RST , PLED, SPKR are. They don't show.

Tge LED for power supply connected to MOBO lights up, but when I click the on button it wont turn on! Ive tried switching the above mentioned wires many times. HELP!
 
try the power switch both ways, one is correct, if neither work then the mobo could be a dud
 
Usually there's a diagram in the manual that should indicate what pins are the power toggle circuit. Polarity doesn't matter, it's just a switch.
 
All the power and reset switches will work either way. The harddrive and power LEDs will only light up if they are the right way though.
 
If you really want help with this then go to the website for the mb manufacturer, find the page with downloadable manuals and post the link here.
Then everyone will be able to see the relevant diagrams and hopefully be able to give advice.
 
do I need to put in a graphics card? I wanted to test it today and I am receiving one tommorow. So would that effect it?

Erm , yes, I should think it would affect it quite a bit. I suggest that while you wait for your card to arrive, that you read and re-read your manual and make sure everything is connected properly.
 
Okay I put it in and connected it, I checked connections for everything and still no dice.
 
You're not giving enough information. In order to help at all we'll need a blow-by-blow account of what you've done and how you've set things up so far.

Hell, 8 posts until we find out you don't have a graphics card connected. How about ram? How about a processor?
 
Well sorry, ive been rather aggrivated by this whole deal.

But basically I first put in my proccesor, and that went pretty swell except for the clips, then I fixed the motherboard into the PC and such. Then I put in the RAM sticks both side by side as said in the manual. There are two power supply cords (24 slotted one and the 4 slotted one) ive tried plugging them seperately and tried plugging them all. Neither works, I basically have everything else in and plugged, my video card, sound card, etc etc. The power button I have plugged and replugged but no effect as before. My harddrive is plugged in using the SATA cable and the fan on the power supply is also plugged in (I thought this was the problem.) ive tried many , many things, yet still no idea. I could send pics, but I don't have a very high quality cam so I don't know if that would make any difference. Any ideas?

So you didn't plug those into the motherboard? Doesn't that mean theres no power going to the motherboard? It wont power-up if theres no power going through the mobo.
If you don't know where they go, there should be a white female(not pins, holes to put pins in :p) connecter on the motherboard next to where you plug the IDE cables from cd drives and floppy drives.
 
No no, I mean I plugged in the ATXPWR1 and ATX12V1, I also plugged in ATX4P1. But as I remember sometimes the auxillary blocks it also. So I tried unplugging them seperately. That's what I ment. These are in the manual I posted a link to.

Hehe. Always gets a giggle when people first hear it. It is actually what they're called. Male = pins... Female = Place to put pins :eek:
 
Still not enough information. What does 'no effect' mean? Is there power supplied to the motherboard? Is the light on the motherboard on before you try to turn it on? Does it beep? Do any other lights flash? Is your ram seated? Have you turned on the power supply with the small black switch on the back? Do not touch the small red one. Did your cpu make a snap sound when you seated the heatsink? Have you plugged in all fans, cpu, all necessary bridges, has there been a nuclear detonation recently with a corresponding EMP?

A. No effect I mean it still doesnt work.
B. Yes I have plugged in as instructed, the auxillary and the two others.
C. Yes the light is on the motherboard before I try to turn it on
D. No beep
E. The light in the back where USB is lights yellow
F. Ram seated.
G.Yep turned on the switch
H. Didn't touch the voltage change.
I. Yes it made a snap.
J. I checked and there is none that needed to be seated, almost all the wires are plugged.
K. No, but a child who says he's seen dead people stands under my window every night. Does that count?
 
Make sure you have a 4 pin molex plugged in as well as the 21 pin mobo power molex. If you have both plugged into the mobo then read the mobo manual and find how to reset CMOS

After you have done that and it still doesn't work take out the RAM, vid card, HD/cd drive, sound card if you have one and yes even the processor. You might want to take the processor out as the symptoms you are listing are those of a bad processor.

If none of that still works your mobo might be bad. Try to return it if it still has a warranty but my guess is there is still something wrong that you can fix. Problems like this are always something minor...you might not even be putting the molex connectors all the way in! So keep trying until you are absolutely sure.
 
It's fixed since Monday, the motherboard wasnt mounted high enough. I am getting amazing fps in hl2 and DOD, how could I have ever lived without this?
