Problem w/ steam

HellO!

For a while ago I posted this in the Counter-Strike: Source Update Available thread.

When I start steam, the update sign comes up, and it says "updating steam", but nothing happends. The yellow "bricks" doesn't show. It stays like this for a couple of minuttes and then the logging on to steam account sign comes up. And then I get a connectionh error.
What the hell is wrong?"

I decided to re-installed XP. When steam was installed I still could'nt seem to get the problem fixed. Now when I start steam the "Updating Steam..." sign comes up, but nothing happends. After a few minuttes it says "Could not update steam, please try later...".

First I thought it was a problem with the steam network, but it has been like this for a week. I have tried downloading steam, re-install it, repair it, NOTHING WORKS.

I think I found out what the problem is. I downloaded the Battlefield 2 demo, and I can't seem to play that online either. So I think the problem lies in my internet, does anyone have an idea on how do fix it?
