Problem with AOL IM

I have a problem with the messenger. Whenever I start to type in the box, it wont type and it just makes a beep sound. On the blue bar (in windows xp) on top, where minimize, close, and maximize buttons are, i can see a flashing box which seems to be the problem, it is not normally there. WHat can i do?

Hrmmmm i sometimes get this problem with UO

And what i usually do is double click on the blue bar and it usually cures it.
