Problem with console

I'm not able to bring up the console, enable developers console in advanced is enabled so that isn't the problem and i press the button under esc, and still nothing happens, if i add - console in my desktop shortcut the game starts with console brought up, but when i try the key it still doesn't do anything, help would be appreciated.

It's only possible with american keyboards. -Console should do the trick.

Yeah i did that but then i can only acces the console when i startup the game and i need to acces the console when ingame.

When ingame, simply hit the esc to go to the main menu and enter anything into the console.

Tis a weird one. I can't say for sure as I don't have HL2 on this machine, but I think you can rebind the 'console' key through the keyboard menu. If so, rebinding it to the tilde key should fix your problem.

In that type,

bind Z console

Now the console will open when you press Z key. Obviously you can replace the Z with any key you want.
