ok so.. ive had cs:s for a while now.. and ive had these problems..
basically i have a quite worthy computer.. everything is pretty nice in my machine.. when i run cs:s or hl2 everything gets maxed out by default.. which is good... i get into the game
everything looks hell nice and its how it should be... however.. as soon as stuff happens.. in cs:s if players come near me.. or if there is a gun fight my fps drops way way down.. like under 10.. ok so thats a problem yes.. so i figured id wait till hl2 came out and test it.. see if its the same.. yes.. yes it is.. everything is maxed out and runs fine till something happens..
ok so i figure ill put all the settings down...
i turn them down.. to the worst of everything.. it makes no difference at all.. so now im thinking wtf.. maybe there is a conflict somewhere or something thats causing this.. i just dont know what.. hence why im here..

its a real issue and i really hope someone can help me work it out..

anything.. anything at all i can try.. would be great

thanks guys

What gfx card?

If you just tone down the AA it will prolly help a lot. my leadtek 6800 has issues now and then.. hoping its normal! hehe

ok
video card is

ASUS V9999GE FX 6800 256M with TV-out/DVI Game Edition
P4 2.8
1gig of dual layer ddr ram
sata hdds

i just dunno wtf it could be..
i used to have a ti 4600
and i think i got the same kinda thing..
i really dont think its the gfx card.. i just dont know what could cause it..
if i drop everything to the worst.. i still get it.. so thats why i figure its not the gfx card..

if anyone can think of anything hardware wise.. that could cause it lemme know..
if just done a fresh format as well.. so i doubt it could be software..

cheers

do you get it with only hl2 ? and cs:s
or with everything... like all games do play..
but i can tell that its not running like it should be with these specs... nfsug2 runs real nice at full everything but everynow n then it gets a bit chunky...

i dunno what it could be.. but i assume its some kinda hardware problem.. but not the video card.. just dont know what could cause it other than the gfx card.

I have it too with my 6800 GT..but lowest it gets is 30 fps.

p4p800 non-deluxe
2.8 ghz 800 fsb
XFX 6800 GT
2x512 twinmos pc-3200
antec truepower 480W

I have the asus 9800xt and im getting around 30-50 fps standing still. Then when i start moving....it slowly goes up to around 50-70's. Kinda weird. Is there any tweaks or adjustments i can do to fix this?

Do you have the latest Nvidia drivers installed? What sort of temperatures is your cpu running at?

yeah
latest drivers are installed...

i have no idea how hot my cpu gets.. its a good point..

my room is a constant 16 degree's (celcius) due to air con.. so technically it shoudlnt be a problem.. however it might be overheating...

any suggestions on how to check the temp ?

cheers

Same Prob !!!

LOL ! Funny I found this post cause i was just about to take my Gfx card back to where i bough and beat the crap out of the guy who sold me it.
Im using a Xfx 6800 Ultra on a P4 3.0, 1gb Ram dual chan, 160 hdd and my average fps are like 40 to 65. I´ve tried my gfx card on a friends Pc and I get the same results, it doesnt matter on what settings I Put the graphics I always get the same Fps. (quite embarrassing cause he´s using a geforce 4 and gets better fps than I do)
Vsync is off and fps_max is 300,
Ive tried everything. I now use Omega drivers and Its a little better (10 more Fps) but far from what it should be.
Video stress test i get 60 fps :( .
Wondering If its an Issue with all 6800 on the source engine ???
ATI probably payed extra for this ...

Depends on your motherboard. Go into the BIOS and see if there is a submenu labelled temperatures or something. You can also try Motherboard monitor.

http://www.dvhardware.net/modules.php?name=Content&pa=showpage&pid=3

If it won't work with your motherboard, I suggest cracking open the case and looking for dead fans and checking the exhaust air temp by hand. It's not exactly scientific though.

I´ve posted on many forums and found loads of 6800 owners who share our problem. I belive this might be some kinda incompatability issue cause i ve tried every possible thing. I have tried my card in a pc that gets 90 fps with a geforce 4 put in my card and it went down to 60. very weird ....

This is what I have tried so far but without success :

Tried every possible configuration in mother board bios (all apertude sizes, agp 8x 4x 2x, agp fast write on/off etc etc etc)

Tried old drivers, new drivers, Nvidia drivers, Omega drivers etc etc etc... no significant changes

Tried my card in another Pc that had a gforce 4 and was getting 90 110 fps. With my card it went down to 60 70 fps.

Tried it on a system with windows 2000 (im using Xp sp2 btw)

Tried a more powerfull power supply, (all that ended up doing was giving me a headache)

Tried 3 diferent monitors with diferent Hz

Funny thing is that it doesn´t matter what settings i use (AA and reflections and shadows all on or all off ) nor what resolution i play in the. Fps always basicly stay the same, even tough the game looks great.
Regarding other games, farcry runs great at max settings and so does Doom 3 (can´t play it on ultra mode tough but from what i´ve heard thats normal) Half life runs great untill i run into a gun fight with and its starts Lag like hell !

Would like to hear from someone using a 6800 ultra (a XFX 6800 would be grat) that doesn´t have these problems !

Later this week I´m gonna go to the shop where i bought my card and ask the vendor to put in another one so that i can test it on css to find out if this may be a defect in my card or not. If the other card has the same issue then i would bet its a compatability issue between 6800´s and source

Suggestions are ofcourse very welcome !
