I have had Half-life 2 for a couple months now. I just updated my ancient drivers to the newest ones from nVidia. Before, with the old drivers, Hlaf-life 2 looked and played amazingly. When I upgraded, the game started to look loike crap and stutter a lot. I mean, it stutters so that it becomes unplayable. Before I installed the new drivers, I uninstalled my old ones, removed all trace of them from my drive, used driver sweeper to clean anything I missed, also ran regcleaner to remove registry traces of the driver. When I discovered how bad this was performing, I did the same thing for the new ones, and re-installed the old ones. I still have the problem. Then, in desperation, I un-installed Half-life 2 from my system. Then, I re-downloaded it from steam. Now, I do not have the stuttering problem! Now, the game crashes to desktop saying there was an "Engine Error". What should I do? My video card is a Geforce FX 5500. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
