Problem with loading up Half-Life 2 or Counter-Strike: Source

Hey guys
i bought Half-Life 2 a few hours ago with Counter-Strike: Source, and i installed all of it and made a Steam account, but when i try to load up HL 2 or CSS or Steam nothing happens.
please please please can someone help me?
