Problem with XSI

I have a problem with the XSI that they want you to use. It hates me. I have my res set at 2048 x 1536, but it wants me to use some insane res like 1280 x 1024, which is absurd. I want to use the program, as i want to model stuff, but i dont like having a lower res. Is there a way to make it work at my res? Also, how can i properly export models from 3d studio max 6? One last thing- how can i make multiple objects in XSI into one object so that i can use it?

it works in any resolution but it recommends 1280x1024

No. If i try to use it at any res other than 1280 x 1024, it gives me a default layout missing error.
