I've played without any problems for quite som time now, but suddenly Steam wants to update, and crashes with this error message:
Steam.exe (main exeption): ERROR : delete of steam.exe failed; WIN32 error 5, "Permission denied"

My firewall is setup to accept all the Steam and HL2 communication ?

Can anyone help me ?

regards

Go and find Steam.exe (Generally C:\Program Files\Steam\Steam.exe) and right click on it. Then click on Properties and see if it is set to Read only.

If it is, then untick the box and retry.

It sounds like it's trying to update that file but something on your computer is stopping it from being changed/deleted.

Alternatively, this problem is documented on Steam's support pages and you can find some information on it here.

Try deleting the steam.exe manualy and then run it with the shortcut. (just move it so its backed up)

If that doesnt work your in the "try turning off your speakers" arrea where it could be anything...

I've allready tried that, but didn't work either !? :-(

Thanks

I uninstalled the program "Iprotectyou" og then the upgrade started, but it has now taken more than 12 hours ?????? I've got a DSL 512 kbs connection, so the server must be very busy !??
