I want to delete everything on my computer, but it won't let me. When I go to DOS and type in format c: it tells me that there's a program or more running, but how to I shut these down?
We've also tried right clicking on the C Drive and then pressing Format, but it won't let us...
We've tried shutting down EVERYTHING but nothing happens... HELP COMPUTER!

What OS? Windows XP?

When you say you 'go to dos' i'm guessing you're using the DOS prompt in windows - don't do that. Use a MS-DOS boot disk if you're using Windows 95 to Windows ME - if you're running NT, 2000 or XP you should put in the installer CD and let it boot from that and select format.

insert the windows (im assuming you have xp) xp disk, or whatever os disk you have. restart windows and leave the disk in to be read whilst window loads. you should get the windows install window come up, and you can completely reformat and reinsatall windows or what ever you want to do, via that procedure...or at least im sure you can...as thats how i did it :E

hope this helps, and sorry to anyone who thinks this is wrong.

We're running XP PRO
So you just want us to put in the XP CD and then reboot the computer and then boot from the CD? What the hell? Will that delete everything?

Yeah, there's an option on the boot - tell it you want to install over an existing installation, then tell it you want to format the drive first - suggest you use NTFS as the file system.
