Greetings to everybody of the Half-Life 2 community. I have been experiencing some unusual technical difficulties after I began using Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit edition. I maximize all of the graphics settings in the game because I think I have the hardware to support it:

Intel Core 2 Duo E6600
2.00 GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS

The resolution I use is 1920 by 1200 and it's widescreen setting is 16:10.

Every time I save, it takes about 10 to 20 seconds during a period in which all sounds stutter and the screen is frozen. When I accessed the second load point of the game right after you exit the car when you entered the Citadel, I can't see anything but orange and the weapon I'm holding, although I can hear sounds. Also, the intro screen with the valve in the person's eye is very jumpy and weird now. Certain seemingly random points in the game freeze for over 20 seconds with considerable stutter.

I can assure you I am not infected with any malignant software.

Performance is remarkably smooth when it's not freezing up, interestingly.

I would greatly appreciate it if any of you could inform me of what I'm doing wrong or offer me suggestions. Thank you.

Are your graphics drivers up to date? The 8800 series use different drivers from normal.

Otherwise, it could just be Vista incompatibility. It happens, in which case you're just going to have to wait it out.

I have never heard of this error before..

anyway, i think it is just your vista drivers for your 8800, you might just have to wait..

and do everything you can possibly do, like defragging, and reinstalling (right-click hl2 in steam, you'll see everything..)

So your suggesting I should wait for a Windows Vista update such as Service Pack One so it can recognize my drivers? I should have waited to use Windows Vista I suppose.

Thank you so much for your replies. I'm sorry I can't be helpful to others here with their technical problems but I'll try. All of this stuff is just really confusing to me. Thanks again.
