Hello im kinda new at this stuff, i just bought halflife 2 today and installed it, now it works fine for awhile then it will start crashing saying " halflife 2 exe application error, blah blah the memory could not be read" then it just crashes. what could be causing this? BTW i have a AMD 64bit 2800 athlon with a DFI mobo, over 1 gig sddr ram, BFG 5500 256mb video card and a 250 gig hd. Any ideas???

Try a search for that tilt ("memory could not be read"). That sounds very much like the errors everyone experienced when the game was first released. Did you download and install the Steam update when you installed the game?

I think i might need to update the steam software, how do i do that? what does "memory could not be read" refer too?

Try here for a possible answer. Steam should (if you are online and don't already have the latest version) automatically download the update. I believe it had to do with sound card incompatibility and some other command line entries? Seriously, I thought that bug was fixed in the updates.

wait im not playing online, am i supposed to be or somthing? maybe thats why it doesnt work right, i didnt think hl2 was an online game. how do i play online so i can get these updates?

LOL - I thought you had to be online to install it! Yeah, just connect to the Internet and restart Steam.

ok that steam program says its already connected, so i guess the updates is not the problem. what is steam anyways? i was going to just delete it but im wondering if thats needed for gameplay? also what is that "counter strike source" icon thats on my desktop now? is that like a free trial video game? The game keeps crashing still what should i try next?
