Problems with HL1 from steam

Hi all. Well, I bought HL1 and all the xpansion packs when they came out on CD and never bothered with the Steam shizzy till yesterday. I was at first very impressed by Steam and how it put completely new versions of the games onto my system, until I went to play HL1 and OpFor. Both played fine for a little bit though I noticed an ungodly long loadtime period between each part, which never happened on the CD versions and then after about one or two parts they started loading and the game just locked, though luckily it didn't lock my comp, and I had to end the programs through task manager. Can anyone help me with this problem? Oh, and they are also running in a windowed mode, how do I solve that, it only seems to work when I put it in widescreen, but then Ilose the text at the bottom of the screen. Hopefully someone can help me, I will be very gracious for any help I recieve.

I not quite sure whats wrong with it but maybe its your video settings in the game. Try seeing wats in there and changing it around it may help cuz it did for me when I had problems. If your losing the text at the bottom just adjust ur monitor screen so its fits correctly on the screen. Thats all I can say hope that helps.
