problems with HL2 games

whenever I try to play HL2 or the episodes I get loads of problems like crashes aand OS paged pool memory low and all kinds of other stuff, are these problems with the game or my crap PC? (I hope It's the computer because I want to be able to play them with as little problems as possible when I get an new PC).

What are your computers specifications?

not sure of everything but I do know that It has a crap outdated processor & graphics card, this is why I'm getting a new one

the processor is an intel pentium 4, tis' a very old machine so it's crap anyway.
