Alright, so I built a new PC. I also bought a 8800GT with my parts, and have been using it a lot. So, I play Counter Strike Source, and I find I'm getting only 60 fps at max settings. I know, 60 fps is good, but seeing as people with worse graphics cards are getting a better FPS I come up with another question: WTF.

Do you think that this is because I'm running my Nvidia panel on quality or something? I think it might be, but my friend with a 8800 GTS is getting around 250 fps. What gives?

60 FPS max. hmm
That just happens to be the default refresh rate windows uses for monitors. Do you by chance have V-Sync enabled either in the game or in the Nvidia control panel?

what are your specs? a shit processor or psu will bottleneck your card.

Any higher won't make a difference. Our eyes limit any further visible frames.

You enable V Sync. That is your solution, disable it. What is the Refresh Rate of your monitor?

Please don't make this statement. :)
More frames definetly can help. There is no specific number for everyone's eyes that you stop either being able to see more detail in full or the ability to see just a change in the picture.

If you want to talk about limits then say that his monitor will be limiting the frame rate he sees. :p

I get about 260ish FPS on the CS:S stress test with my 8800GT on high settings. You should definitely be getting more if your other specs are decent.

On my old computer i would have had a heart attack to see my fps go above 40.

On my Thinkpad R60 I get between 5 and 50 FPS. :o

But then again, it's an Intel GMA950 card.
