Hi guys, when hl2 loads up and im at the welcome screen, after a couple of seconds the graphics go funny and the display messes up. It has lines going over it then all these triangles and a black background and you can see people walking but their shadows are white. I have to exit the game then switch back to it using alt-tab. Here is an example of what I get.
Thanks

Please post your system specifications. And when's the last time you updated your graphics drivers?

Hi, these are my specs:

C2D E6600 @ 3.3GHz
8800GTS 640
2GB DDR2-800 Geil
500GB samsung HDD
Asus P5n32-e sli (680i)
XP home sp2

i updated my drivers today

You're well above the recommended system requirements.

Verify integrity of game cache.

Go into Steam, right-click Half-Life 2, go to Properties, Local Files, and then Verify integrity of game cache. Let it run, and see if that doesn't solve it.

Sounds like your graphics card is overheating or otherwise malfunctionous.

ive updated my DirectX files too. I hope my graphics card isnt malfunctioning it isnt overheating the core temp is around 55-60 C
is it possible for logitech software to intefere? ive heard that it clashes a lot. Also, I have an ASUS motherboard, ive read in the support section this is an issue sometimes?

PS the integrity of my cache seems to be OK
PS 2 i installed episode 1 and i seem to be getting the same problems.

I can play other games like Far Cry on full setting without a problem so i dont think its a graphics card problem, more likely software related.

Hi Ive checked everything again and the game seems to be able to play perfectly on forced dx levels. Right now HL2 is running on dx 7. Anyone know why this is? and a solutions? Thanks!

The 8800's have given me so much trouble with that game. Dx7? :( Nooooooo.
