Proc Upgrade

I am considering upgrading my processor and mobo. Right now I have an AMD XP 2800+ and a 6800 GT overclocked, I am pretty sure my proc is slowin down my video card. Would it be beneficial to upgrade? Would a 3400+ be a good upgrade? Is there a big difference between the 512 cache and 1 mb?

There would be a performance jump from XP to an Athlon 64. If it's worth it is up to you. I would not go to the Socket 754 platform right now though if you would want to upgrade just the CPU at a later time.

Maybe something like a 3200+ or 3500+ (socket 939). Also make sure you get an AGP board so you can use your video card.

Just go to anandtech.com, CPU reviews and go down to a later date when they included XP CPUs in their charts along with Athlon 64s. That would give you an idea of performance.
