I posted a while ago about buying the athlon xp 3200+ cpu. it has finally arrived and I have fitted it but like I expected, a problem has occured. When I now boot up the computer it doesn't recognise it and says that the Athlon XP 1900+ is installed, which Is worse than the one I took out. I brought the barton off ebay and no one would be stupid enough to send a fake barton and then leave their address so Im pretty sure its the correct model, and I checked the specs of my motherboard and it defiantely supports the barton. I browsed the internet, mainly the AMD website, and it seemed like a common occurance, and many people have been saying things like increasing FSB settings from 133mhz to 200mhz or above and it should work. However, when I enter my system bios, and enter the bios for my processor which is called the 'CPU PnP Steup Page', I get the following options:

CPU Brand: AMD K7
CPU Type: Barton
CPU Frequency: 133Mhz
SDRAM Frequency: 200Mhz

Now I can change the SDRAM Frequency to 266Mhz but I cant change any of the other specs as they greyed out and I am pretty sure I need to change the CPU Frequency to 200Mhz+ but I cant.

I am looking in the right place and if I am how do I change the settings?

Bus speed should be at 200Mhz (400 rated speed) for the Athlon XP 3200+. Get the manual of the motherboard and check how to change it. If you don't have it go online and download the manual from the manufacture.

Also check your bios, like Brick suggested. Some boards only support the Xp 3200+ with updated bios. Maybe you have an older bios version and the updates since then enable XP 3200+ support (enabled 200 FSB setting)?

lol doesn't matter now, the LAN connection on the motherboard is buggered and we need that to get a good internet connection (its like 3 rooms down the hall from the wireless hub so the wireless signal is too weak) so he agreed to get a new motherboard, with a new cpu and PCI-E graphics card for around £170 altogether. I got the Athlon 64 3500+ and the ATi Radeon X1600 PRO 512mb PCI-E, they aren't top of the range of the range stuff but really after xmas when I get a 360, it will only need to run the RTSs that fail to come out for the 360.

Cheers for help anyway :)
