So I'm on my computer and every few minutes something on my taskbar popups and dissapears within miliseconds and I can't figure out what it is but I can assume that it is a virus since I have never seen it until today. Thank you

XP?

Probably an error notification (probably a network error). Check the error log and you should find it timestamped. Restart the PC and it will stop.

I'm using Vista and it doesn't stop even if I restart it.

Check task manager, any strange processes?

Go to start, run. Type in 'msconfig', check the start-up tab, anything on the list which looks like that program?

k. I'm unfamiliar with Vista, so it could still be an error (one that requires your attention since restarting it doesn't fix it), you can check your error reporting log. I'm not sure how you get there on Vista.

click "Start" go to "Search Programs and Files" and type "Run" click the Run result then type in the box "eventvwr" to bring up the event viewer

sometimes takes a while to load....also a shortcut to get "Run" open is to hold down your Windows key and push R

I just took a stab in the dark TBH. I had some little icon that would pop up on my taskbar sometimes, and I didn't know WTF it was. Every time I tried to click it it would disappear.

Well, one time I caught it before it could disappear, and it was an internet error of some sort. The icon lets you know there was an error to the log or whatever... By resetting the PC, all problems were fixed.

I am curious to know if that's what it was. It could also be just about anything that auto-hides. Like it could be another computer on the network turning on or off, and it gives you a notification.. whatever.

I haven't seen it the popup in a while, so maybe it just went away. Thanks for the help though.
