Well, you just need a mic and some kind of recording program (something like cooledit or something) so you record your self doing things that sounds like the sounds you wanted

If you want to create *very* basic distorted sounds (perhaps forfiring ion/laser based weapons or similar) use windows sound recorder, plug a mike and babble into it while recording.
Then use the increase-speed-function the windows recorder features and reduce the time it takes to play the sample to a split second and then apply some echo/reverse effects while expanding the playtime back to original size... The data loss due to the reduction and expansion of the sample will do the rest...

Happy experimenting and don't expect too much of it ...

You have to be VERY creative if you want to do sound effects. Just try taking ordinary objects and start messing around with them to see what kind of sounds they can make.

Actually with some slight editing that sounds perfectly ok
