"Why do, basically, people with money have good health care and why do people who live on lower salaries not have good health care?" she said. "Health should be a right for everyone." She is president of the Global Health Corps, an organization that champions global health equity.

Barbara Bush's comments come just weeks after her mother, former First Lady Laura Bush, professed views that departed sharply from the Republican majority opinion. During a Fox News interview, Laura Bush was asked to comment on Elena Kagan's nomination to the Supreme Court.

Video in the link.

The women in the Bush family seem to have a more realistic and compassionate view of the world and its inhabitants.

So she says people who have money have better health than those that don't. Woop-dee-doo, I wonder what her thoughts are on world hunger.

Uhh no... why don't you read the article and watch the video. She founded and heads an organization that actively pursues an improvement of global health care improvement for disenfranchised people around the world.

This isn't some retarded "I think it would be great if there was world peace!" beauty pageant comment like you're making it out to be.

No, she isn't stating facts, she's saying health care should be available to all, as it should.

Are we going to join hands and sing kumbaya? So life isn't fair to everyone, boo-hoo. Oh wait, she's the daughter of a former president and her views are [supposedly] unlike his... sounds like a news story to me. :|

What the **** are you rambling on about? Why shouldn't efforts be made to improve the quality of life for underprivileged people?

Dear God: Do you have the capacity to read? We would like to know.

Sincerely, Us.

p.s. If you do, please explain your stance in more detail so we can dissect it and throw it out the window.

Yeah, all these stupid hippy faggits wanting everyone to have access to basic healthcare as is the case in all of the civilized world except here in the US. Real men spend a trillion dollars a year on fighter jets and guns, f-ck healthcare.

I think I've misunderstood Some_God's post. It seems to be not a show of hate towards Barbara Bush, but an attack on healthcare.

Normally, I would be against socialism creeping up in government, but there are some things that shouldn't be open to political debate, like defense, internal security, and the health of the nation's own citizens.

but SOme_god strictly adheres to the partisan rhetoric; it's no surprise he's attacking big governemnt imposed socialist healthcare which is so close to communist you can see the red in their eyes (and it's not becaus e they just smoked a blunt)

Putting words into my mouth, cool!

... but I do believe basic healthcare for everyone is a nice idea - so is world peace.

But because the one is probably unattainable, we shouldn't attempt to make the other a reality?

I believe that the effort should be expended on something more realistic and attainable.

You're joking about all this right? Surely you're not for real?

Oh boy, you're a treat.

"Oh sure I'd love world peace and basic healthcare for all"
"Would you like to make social and political efforts to make those ideas a reality?"
"HAHAHAHA, yeah I'll sign that while I'm riding through town on my unicorn. Life's not fair and that shit won't ever happen, sucks for poor people."

Hey, did you know that, in Korea, people pay on average less than 5% of what they pay for medical attention in the United States?

Example: A mitral valve replacement in the US costs: $60,000

Over here, it costs: $1500

Replacing a knee joint in the US: ~$70,000

Over here: $400 - 0.5% of what you'd pay in the US.

And our income tax rate is 16%, which is about 8 percentage points lower than the US.

So, I'd say that good healthcare for all is pretty much possible.

The main problem is, we have a lot more people with a lot more problems. Especially because of our health problems, stereotypes aside, this is the lazy generation.

A lot more money too, you're telling me the richest country in the world can't afford healthcare for all?

yet the US is the only industrialised nation without some form of universal healthcare. it isnt outside of reality for the other industrialised nations so it's certainly a viable system and not in the realm of fantasy as you suggest. ffs even mexico has universal healthcare and the US standard of living is much higher than mexico's right?

If only we spent a fraction of the money we spend on stuff to kill people, to instead heal people.
