I read something that some of the PS3 videos were pre-rendered. I also read that sony did this more than once when they annoucned the PS2 5 years ago. Does anyone have any links to the early footage of PS2 games that were pre-rendered? Also I don't quite understand what pre-rendered means..is it like a CG scene?? Thank you.

yeah the very first trailer of silent hill 2 was pre-rendered but it ended up looking very much like if not exactly the same as the pre-rendered stuff they showed

Prerendered can mean rendered using the (in this case) the PS3 hardware but maybe with a poor performance, with a bit of editing it can be made to look nice and smooth on playback.

Or it could mean created in software on a pc and rendered using that into a video file.

I think the former applies to the PS3 games shown at the conference.

Pre-rendered just means that instead of doing the rendering there on the system (in real time), it was done before, and what you're seeing is a movie of it instead of it actually going through the game in real time.

When they're just showing off the graphics and power of the system, I really don't think it makes a difference where the rendering was done, as long as it is or is supposed to be what it can do (like Sony said).

If you watch the PS3 conference they show a landscape flying by only with the cell chip and not with RSX. It looks increadible, just with the cell chip..and not with the RSX...anyway I'm fairly confident the games should look as good if not better than unreal 3 or killzone...I hope they show some games on the show floor this year for PS3 and will see if they look as good as they did at the conference.

its like watching an animated movie pretty much i.e. finding nemo
