PS3 crash-tastic? 360 - return to vendor?

9 out of 10 times I walk by the electronics isle at the department store, or am at an electronics store, I see the PS3 is locked up. Frozen Screen. I dont' know if it's permanently damaged or if they just lock up all the time, or nobody bothers to reset the things...

Whats up with that, are these things crap or what? I realize leaving a console on 24-7 is hard on it, but it's got it's own cooling containment.

Anyone having problems with their PS3?

I know the 360 was having a lot of problems when it first came out, has that been resolved?

360's still die :) Just something they do.

haven't really heard many bad things about the PS3 in terms of crashing or dying. Only to those that are on display in shops. So I guess the PS3 did something right in that department if not many people are having problems. Then again it is still early days for the console.

From personal experience I can't remember my PS3 ever freezing on me, and I've had it since January. There have been some glitches within certain games, but never a total freeze or lockup.

However, I have had three friends with 360s die.

I haven't had a single problem with my 360 and I've had it since January '06. Sadly I only know of one person who has a PS3 and we don't talk very much so I can't comment on them.

360 launch consoles used to crap out all the time, but the newer ones are ok. Guess the same will be said for the PS3.

I've got a friend who's had his Xbox xince about midway through last year, and it hasn't ever given him any problems. My other friend got a PS3 for christmas, and it's frozen up on him a lot.

I'm considering buying myself a 360 just for Forza 2.... and the wheel that MS makes too...

apparently the PS3 case they have to stop people from stealing it provides too little ventaltion and isn't a true represntive of the stability of the PS3.

My 360 has crashed once in its use. Though currently it's just collecting dust tbh.

My colleague just got a 360 in February and he had some overheating crashes then it just crapped out entirely so he had to send it back. Are these the new ones that aren't supposed to crap out??

I'll take it :naughty:

Mine never crashed once. The instore PS3 units are not the full PS3 hardware. They are only demo units. They dont even have the cell in them.

I have a launch 360 and it has never had any problems :D

i've had a 360 since 3 days before laucnh (every 10 minutes contest) and it has never crashed, frozen, or had any other hardware failure.

Hey Victim. :)

I remember reading something that cooler running ones were to roll off the assembly lines sometime in 2007, but not sure on a specific date. He probably didn't get one of the new ones.

I'm in no hurry personally, I still don't see a reason to own one yet. Waiting for more reasons (games), and lower prices on hardware and games. I'll wait till all the fuss is over. Of course, by that time, I'll be running DX10 and twin graphics cards, but there will be some games that I'll want to play regardless of processing power, etc.
