Yes, that is correct my children, for I now own a PSP. *Holds it up to the sky* YES.

Dude(Ettes for the ladies), it is the most awesome portable gaming console. Its amazing, 1, its size, 70-80% of the whole thing is just the LCD screen(just counting the front side). Its not heavy, the speakers are great on it, really kicks out some sound.

I've yet to try the WI-FI since I cant seem to find anyone around to play with ;( .

I got Metal Gear: AC!D and Need for Speed: Underground Rivals. Holy wow do they look great on the screen :D

So far from what I can see there is little to no ghosting, yet to find a sticky button and the UMD's havent flown out like ninja stars.

I woke up at 7AM, ran to my nearest Target, got in like with the 30 people, and within 10 minutes of getting there I was walking out with my own PSP :D

:D Good to hear you like it ... so does it have v1.50 of the PSP os or is it still v1.00 ?

It's 1.5. I tried to update mine and it said it was up to date.

BTW, I got my PC to recognize my PSP =). LOL..porn on a PSP, so awsome. I need a 1 gig duo stick

^^ soul reason im buying a psp :p not for the porn but the fact you can transfer files that way, oh and of course all the other things it comes with :p

Plus you can do firmware updates which is a very good thing, and im not sure the DS can do that

yea got my psp today. this handheld is SICC! the screen is beautiful.
no dead pixels or anything like that. man im still amazed by the screen.

OMG PsP rocks *throws DS away* don't need that any more =P (I still love my DS just PsP is better)

PSP is so much better, and worth every cent. It's set to get even better with the lineup of awesome games, (post-release firmware) features and hardware (VoIP phone/digicamera addon/etc)... It's also a much higher build quality than the DS, as im sure you'll agree if you've been lucky enough to have both.

Sony > Nintendo ... sorry kids, tis a fact.

Now come on, you're not going to persuade anyone with childish comments like that ;)

I've played both machines, and enjoyed both. However, the future PSP lineup looks relatively poor compared to the DS's (imo of course), and hasn't convinced me to part with my cash. This is bound to change, and I will pick up a PSP when it does.

Ridge Racer, Wipeout, Tony Hawks Underground 2 - all good games on the PSP that look great (there's no denying the screen is fantastic :)). But I don't want them, having played each franchise to death (and then some) Metal Gear Acid looked full of promise, and is a decent game, but has certainly fallen short of being the system seller many hoped it would be. Lumines is lovelly tho

This isn't the case with the DS. Even the most die hard Sony/PSP fan can't deny that the DS has many promising looking titles in production right now (there's so many that there was never a question of whether i'd buy one or not) Is it so hard to understand its appeal?

I'm a little curious - out of the 100's of games announed for the PSP, which are the ones that you really want? Convince me, which ones are the AAA system sellers that'll make my £200 seem like money well spent?

tbh the new Final Fantasy title alone will probably be enough - and then there's veiwtiful Joe and GTA etc They're bound to be great, and look far beter than anything the DS can offer. But at the end of the day, it'll be more of the same - just on a very nice little screen.

//edit - don't take this the wrong way Alix. The PSP is certainly a great machine, and i'm glad you're enjoying it :)

GT4Mobile, Mercury and Wipeout Pure are definately on my list, plus theres the ones we dont know about, some of which will be awesome (by the laws of probability alone). It's not just the games though, the PSP is also an excellent MP3 player (with custom equaliser functions too, no less) and a very nice video player... the PSP will also be a web browser, Voice over IP phone, high definition camera (stills and video), email client, schedule, etc ... just as soon as Sony release the next firmware update. Oh yes, that's right... the PSP can get firmware updates directly from Sony over wireless. It's also built like a brick.

So, when you compare feature lists with the DS, the PSP comes out quite far on top. Like you say though, the features aren't everything. On the games side, the DS may have some good games, but in my opinion they are nearly all childish games, targetted at 5 to 15 year olds. Atleast the PSP is getting mature games, targetted at mature gamers.

That depends if you consider Ridge Racer and GTA to be 'mature', and titles like Zelda or Secret of Mana to be childish. There's no point doing this debate again though :)

The PSP also does have some great extra features. None of them interest me though - and it is on games alone that my decision will be made. (too big for an mp3 player or phone, too small for movies - imo)

You're right, the chances are that some great titles (hopefully even some original ones) will appear on the system. I'm just waiting untill then. However, the longer it takes for these promising titles to be announced the more chance my cash will end up on one of the next gen consoles, or the next GBA.

Well if I were you i'd save up and get the PS3 or Xenon, as they are sure to be more pleasing to behold (if you have a big TV of course).

I am the kind of person that classes Ridge Racer/GTA/GT to be "mature" ... Well maybe not mature mature but still, its not outright fantasy in happyland with talking mushrooms and fairies.

Have you seen the size of the screen on the PSP? I put the Incredibles on my memoryStick (512mb) and watched the whole thing, it makes an awesome movie player.

I guess some people are DS people, others are PSP people. Agree to disagree. :)

I've played my mates PSP, and watched a few minutes worth of a movies - it was certainly impressive. I guess it depends on whether you're often in a situation that calls for having a portable movie player (it'd be ideal for long journeys)

The machines are also so different that comparing them like for like is really a waste of time. I never wanted a handheld when I got a DS, just a new toy that was different and to play Zelda linked up with friends. My interest in the PSP is purely from a handheld perspective.

(The main reason I want one is because it's such a neat gadget that looks so bloody cool :))

// btw you know it'll be the Revoltution i'll be saving up for ;)

Warbie I have a DS and the PSP is way better. I like the DS but I mean... ehh.

argh....do any of you have dead pixels or am I the only one? I'm up to three now....

EDIT: just turned my PSP on, 4 dead pixels now.

Are they really visible when you play a game etc? Or do you need to look very close to see them?

You should return it before they run out of psp's ;)

They already have, but I'm returning it as soon as they get more. I have a 1 year replacement plan too, so it's okay as long as the second one is okay.

Loke, if youre not looking for the pixels in game, you won't notice them.

How can I argue with that logic?? ;)

I can understand if you prefer what the PSP offers. But what I want the PSP doesn't cater for (yet), it's as simple as that.

Seems like theres more dead pix in the american PSPs than there were in the japanese ... either that or americans make more of a fuss...

I must have been really lucky in that I got 0 dead pixels ... or maybe they lowered their tolerance at quality control to keep up to quotas or something...

3 hours in line in cold New York and $250 was well worth it! I have it and you don't suckers! NYA NYA! Next shipment is in August, ha ha!

Now that that's over with..

The screen is big, amazing, and has better quality than my television, it looks like a plasma TV, the sound is also incredible, watching Spiderman 2 is a smooth, clear, bright, loud experience. Games are incredibly detailed (great graphics) and it can store up to 30mb of space for photos, music (including music videos which also look great) and saved games.

No problems with it at all right now..

ShadowX, I had mine in early January... sucker...

Glad you like it too... The revolution begins!!! (no, not the nintendo console) :D

I was sooooo close to buying one today on my lunch hour. I pulled 300 bucks from my bank's ATM and headed over to Wal-Mart. Stood in a long line that wasn't related to the PSP launch. While waiting, I started to think. I couldn't spend that much on a handheld system. I got out of line and walked out of the store. I don't usually care for handheld systems but Im a sucker for gadgets. Besides, I didn't really need it. I managed to beat temptation! I'll be spending my money on the upcoming Splinter Cell and the DOOM 3 expansion.

I might get one later on when they sell them as a single unit instead of in bundles. Or when they implement some more unique features. :)

shit my DS has been collecting dust for a loong time now. DS games SUX. PSP on the other hand is insane. i dont own a PS2 so the games are great.

imo im NOT impressed by the DS line up of games.

NOPE I GOT no DEAD PIXELS.

Give it some time m8 - there really are a crap load of excellent titles in production (I agree tho, up to now there have been few great titles. Wario Ware is fun for playing on the move on the move, and Band Bros. is a very good multiplayer game)

Who really purchased a DS for its launch titles?? ....

New Seiken Densetsu (Mana) Series Game - Square Enix
New Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Game - Square Enix
FF6 remake - Square Enix
New 'Tales of ...' Game - Namco
Winning Eleven - Konami
New Goeman (Mystical Ninja) Game - Konami
Viewtiful Joe - Capcom
Sonic DS - Sega
Metroid Prime Hunters - Nintendo
Legend of Zelda 4 Swords - Nintendo
Advance Wars - Nintendo
Mario Kart DS - Nintendo
New Super Mario Brothers - Nintendo
Animal Crossing - Nintendo
Yoshi's Touch and Go - Nintendo
Kirby's Magic Paintbrush - Hal Laboratory

That's why you bought it :) (and this is just a few of the good looking games) If these titles don't make you feel like a kid at Christmas again - then the DS isn't for you (and you're also clinically insane :))

Is that true?

I tried preordering in EBGames about a month ago and thats what they told me, so I went and waited in line at a toys r us that doesn't take preorders and does first come first serve.

There's also a Tales of 'something' game coming out for the DS.

(well, one was 'confimred' a while ago, haven't heard anything else about it since)

Oh, okay.

I actually think the game Lost in Blue for the DS looks promising.

wipeoutwipeoutwipeoutwipeoutwipeoutwipeoutwipeout

I've played every game in the series, and I'm not about to miss a title. Dammit, and here I have been, balking at the idea of owning a portable gaming system when I have a PC...guess the joke's on me.
