Okay I have never owned a psp and I really would like one and the psp go is out soon. However many people have been saying the psp go is just not worth it and it is basically a cooler looking, more expensive psp 3000 with less functionality. But I then thought what if it dropped in price and what if the psp go becomes the main psp platform (although sony says it is a supplement to the 3000 when do these companies ever keep their word?)

Therefore I wanted to get some opinions and as nice as the psp go looks it seems too expensive so I am leaning to the psp 3000 but what do you guys think?

2000? Why?

TBH I don't think they sell those new anymore.

Does it? I thought it was the same, jeese the go is getting worse by the minute.

The 3000 has some minor screen issues and currently is rather limited in terms of custom firmware (and boy will you want CFW). Early 2000 units are fairly simple to hack and can easily be picked up through the likes of ebay (I wouldn't recommend ebay of course). Grab an 8GB memory stick and you'll do well.

Enjoy paying for your games and being an upstanding citizen.

Actually TBH I'm not that interested in CFW

Really? Half the fun of having a PSP is the CFW and all the stuff you can do with it. Without CFW i wouldn't go near my PSP. Overall i've heard poor things about the PSPGO and one of the problems with it which has already been said is it's poor battery life, but unlike the older PSP models you can't replace the battery due to security reasons.

I'm not buying PSP Go because I already have UMD collection.

I have 2 PSPs already (one older one for homebrew and a 3000 for new games), but want a Go as well because of the lack of UMD bullshit. If we can really get the games we already own on UMD via download for no cost, then this may be the absolute best option. Plus the form factor is a HUGE benefit because the older PSPs are long and awkward. The sliding screen is cool too. Its up to you, but I would get a Go so you never have to deal with the lousy UMDs ever.

The only reason i'd want a PSP is for cfw - they're the ultimate emulator handheld. Otherwise i'd go for a 3000 for the bigger screen.

1. Buy UMD game.
2. Backup UMD game.
3. Run UMD game from MS.

Or Hell.

1. Buy UMD.
2. Download ISO

This my friend is the perfect solution. As for being awkward I think you've got it the wrong way around, they're around the same length as a normal console controller. Enjoy bending your thumbs on the GO.

I've got a DS and I am bored with it.

Ok but to be fair sony still hasn't announced their UMD solution plan yet. Personally I think it may be a problem for UMD games that aren't on the PS Store yet.

i wouldnt get the go, just incase you actually want a UMD to carry around. i think the 3000 supports DL games right?

I have an R4 :P

And yeah the 3000 supports DL games like the go does.

I don't know what you guys are on about, its much smaller:

Anyway, it just seems like a better package to me, but especially if you don't have one already. I really hate that UMD drive and the internal 16GB of flash memory on the Go will certainly help things in the DL repsect. Maybe just wait until they fully disclose the owned-UMD download option(s) before making any decision.

I got a PSP 3000 for $100 a few weeks ago off ebay, and it's my first PSP. The screen issues mentioned seem to have been fixed with the more recent firmware (I'm using 5.01 for CFW). It you can wait it out, I would say wait for the release of the go and see how the prices react, if at all.

PSP 3000 or as I tend to call it. Monster Hunter Freedom Unite machine.

CFW is indeed nice ... but even that hasn't kept me too attached to the machine.

I haven't checked forever ... for those more in the know - is there anything more to CFW than emulators and "borrowed" games?

i have the new PSP 3000 and I love it! much brighter screen and just as good as PSP 2000. i just need a better battery

October 1st is release date, and tbh $250 is steep when you can get a new Dissidia Pack like I did and be really happy. I use mine every day especially on my breaks at work and a few friends have sent me their ghost data and its really fun to play against someone. Also just got FF Tactics and that game is pretty fun/addicting too. i love buying and holding games. Although I'm against downloading games, I'm no saint when it comes to media just like grandpa isn't a saint when it comes to women and gambling
