This article on IGN makes the PSP launch seem very sluggish.

Some people attribute it to the price. That's my reason for not buying the system. I plan to wait until the system drops to $150 or something like that. Heck, maybe I'll even buy it used. I'm not completely sold on the games line-up, but the possibility of Wi-fi internet browsing and file storage make it tempting. For those of you who aren't buying it now, what price will you be willing to pay for it?

Pfft, Americans ... just because the GBA and DS are cheap pieces of poorly-manufactured tosh, they expect the same of the PSP.

Well they should know that the PSP is built like a brick, with parts worth twice that of the DS... so asking $250 per unit is a bargain. I've had enough of Americans spitting at the price tag of the PSP. If you pay peanuts, you get crap. The PSP is not crap.

Everyone I know who's bought one has said it's been worth every cent, and have hailed it as being a nintendo killer. If stupid americans don't want to buy it, the only ones missing out is themselves. Tough sh!t.

If I paid that much money for a damn portable gaming console, I would say its worth the money too. It's not that I don't like the PSP/DS. It's just I don't see the point whenever I have a nice computer right in front of me. If I'm away from the computer, then I have something else to do and I'm going to do it. No need for me to get a PSP because the mobile aspect of it means nothing to me.

Classy.

Here's the problem. When so many PSPs are rolling off the line with dead pixels....Sony has the balls to say go Shaq-Fu yourself...dead pixels are normal. It's a fact, they are having a huge problem right now. Depending on the quality of you suppliers and manufacturing process....I can agree. But when you ask $250 for a handheld.....your processes better be up to snuff. That's a truckload of cash for a portable and I don't quite see it as being built like a brick under these circumstances. I'm sure Sony is using parts that are worth twice the amount of the ones in the DS...such a problem free launch has been a testament to that. :| Stupid Americans.....who waits for revisions anyway... :rolling:

On the other hand you have the DS. Although Nintendo also admits that a few malfunctioning pixels is normal, they take a much more customer-oriented approach. One dead pixel and Nintendo will exchange it for you. They will swap you out if it affects your gaming experience in any way. It's a guarantee.

I don't even think it's the dead pixel issue that has caused what that article seems to point out has been a sluggish launch. IMO, the thing is too much goddam money, and they don't offer any options on what you want with your PSP. Not a good prcing strategy IMO.

Sony even had to respond to it in this article. Funny, after all the bitching it reads a little like Nintendo's policy. But a retraction by Sony, nontheless.....they used to say that dead pixels will NOT be warranteed.

$250 just isn't worth it for me. I'd much rather get a GC and a ton of games or something. I'd get wayyy more use out of that than a PSP.

I bought it. I'd say its worth it, I enjoy it. I also have the DS, and I'll let you guess which one I'll be exchanging. The price is totally worth it. It comes with a movie, probably 20 bucks right there, and the ability to play music and videos, thats priceless. Its much better hardware than the DS. Only thing I dont like is that it didnt come with a demo, or something. Other than that, the only reason I see for people not wanting to buy it (or use the excuse "ohh but teh pc is so much better") is because of money. The PC isnt portable. A laptop costs way more and, in essence, does the same thing, especially when you factor in wireless connectivity and web browsing and email. So.. I mean, I thought it was worth it.

Well. I still plan on getting one, but I'm going to wait for revisions....I'm thinking sometime this summer it should be pretty safe and hopefully Sony will have put out a few more options for those making the purchase.

Are you talking about the machine's performance or the quality of the build??
There's no question the PSP is the performance winner, but an argument can be made against the latter if that's what you're refering to. My experiences with Sony's quality have been questionable to say the least and every Sony console I've owned has been exchanged on more than one occasion. I've never exchanged a Nintendo product...not one, ever. I've never had a problem. Further, I purchased my XBox at launch and have not had to exchange it either.

I'll be waiting to buy my PSP.

Lets just say I'd rather drop my DS than the PSP, I think the DS would survive better. That said, I'll be using the included case a lot. Its as slippery as a pickle too. However performance is head-over-heels better than the DS. I will give you a side-by-side screenshot of SM64 vs RR on the PSP later today when I get back from EB. I havent suffered the dead pixel problem, so basically im sound as a pound. Just gotta keep a solid grip on it. It doesnt seem more fragile just seems...more valuable, like something I'd really rather not drop. Theres a big exposed screen which is a bit of a dropping hazard.

That's what I thought you were saying. No doubt the PSP wins the horse power contest, but I think we're in agreement over which one we'd be more comfortable playing catch with...the DS.

That exposed screen would scare the piss outa me also.
