PSP - Lumines 999,999: I finally freaking did it!

For those of you who know about this puzzle game for the PSP, this achievement is a right of passage showing mastery of the game...yep...

999,999 reached in 1hr, 50min, lvl 220 or so

I'm aware my audience is probably pretty small, but I'm proud enough of the hours and hours of play to advertise it anyway :E

And in case you're wondering, the name came about because my friend and I had been playing a lot of King of Fighters at the time...

My record is only around 35000. :/ You got any good tip or strategy? I really want to beat my brother’s score. :E
 
Wow, great score.

The highest that I have at the moment is 71,464.
 
Neato. But I don't have a PSP and never played Lumines. :( So I'm probably not as impressed as other people.

Haha, yeah, I should quit before I need glasses. Maybe now I can move on to other ridiculous challenges (bf2).

Yup, all 40 of em. And contrary to what other people have said on the Intarweb, the 999,999 skin is not the coolest skin ("Flower, Water, and Lights"). I still think "Take The Dog Out A Walk" (yes, that is how it's worded) is my favorite.

Well, what do I say.
The scores that I earned were, shall I say, VERY strongly correlated to the amount of experience with the game. So first and foremost, just practice a whole lot. You should notice that the more you play, the better you get ... but that's not much help.

Second, don't just play Challenge Mode. Play some of the puzzle mode and vs cpu mode. The puzzle mode will help you to find those tricky clears while VS CPU mode will force you to become fast and efficient, and also forces you to think on your toes. Also do time attack for the same reasons.

As for basic clearing strategies, gamefaqs has some good tips on how to place blocks strategically. All I can tell you there is to connect as much color as possible, even if you can't make a clear out of it. The gem block clear you get when you have three squares left at the top will make you glad you did. :D Simple chains can also result if you do this. Just don't end up with a checkerboard pattern, that's a bitch to get rid of...

Yeah, I REALLY hate when I manage to get half the screen to look like a chessboard. :(
