Which would you get based on games only. I'm not gonna be using my PSP as an MP3 player or a portable DVD player.

If there was no Nintendogs, and the PSP's battery would last longer then 15 sec. then the PSP. But there is Nintendogs, thus the DS wins.

DS - it just has far more original and quality games ... with loads of great looking ones on the way.

The PSP is a great little machine, but it's lineup is poor, and there's little on the horizon. The promising titles that are on the way all seem to be better suited to playing on a console on a big tv. GTA on a handheld excites me not one bit.

PSP,

and if you can wait till summer 2006, sony will be releasing PSP with HD.

Burnout
Wipout
Ridge Racer
Toca Driver 2

PSP all the way :D

PSP, better features, better games, dope graphics.

I'm not into that touchy thing of DS.

PSP, Nintendogs is for small japanese children, DS has no decent games, they're all crap nintendo remakes.

PSP > All

I lol@option for DS.

Seriously, look at the DS and then look at the PSP.

I want to say DS, because there is one awesome looking import game out for it that I'd love to play (Jump Superstars), but there's nothing else at all that makes me want one, and the touch screen is painfully gimmicky.

PSP seems to have more power, more functionality, and better games atm, but there's no one game that pushes me over the edge and makes me want one, so at the moment I'm not going to buy either.

Stop Telling Me That The Psp Has Better Graphics And More Functions. I Specificaly Stated I Only Wanted To Know About Games!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The only decent and original game on the PSP is Lumines (imo).

The DS has far better games - not only that, but games that offer something new and exciting.

The PSP offers games we've all played a 100 times before - Burnout, Wipout, Ridge Racer etc, all of which play worse on the PSP than they do on a PS2.

In terms of games......the DS probably has a better lineup so far.

But the PSP can do SO much more. I own more movies than games for my PSP. Plus......I can run all my emulators on it as well, which expands the library greatly.

Why is that Warbs? It looks awesome.

Mainly because i've been playing it on the XBox and PC for quite a while now. I'm not saying that I wouldn't like GTA on the PSP, or enjoy it, but that it's hardly exciting. I've played it to death on machines better suited to it.

The DS is much better game wise.

Kirby: Canvas Curse
Advanced Wars: Dual Strike
Meteos

Which are all great titles, then it has some other puzzle games like Polarium and Mr. Driller.

The best part is the whole touch screen feature, while some games like Advanced Wars it doesn't do much other then your selecting and stuff, but games like Kirby, it's crucial, and makes a fun aspect of gaming arise that wasn't there before.

Not to mention the titles that I haven't tried but want to like Lost In Blue where you're basically stranded on an island trying to survive is supposedly going to utilize the touch screen/stylus a lot like whittling it to make fire, etc (and there's that one where you do surgery forget what it's called.)

But the most fun aspects will have to be the upcoming games for the DS. Mario Kart (which will be mplayer) is going to be a blast. There's also a Mario & Luigi game coming out, a "New" Super Mario Bros (i.e. not a port), and an Animal Crossing DS that looks neat. As well as Super Monkey Ball DS which looks graphically pleasing as well.

If you're into FPS then it also has Metroid Prime: Hunters which is coming out, I recently saw some videos of it and graphically I think it looks great, for a handheld.

With Xenosaga I & II coming out, along with a port of Final Fantasy 3 (my fav) the RPG department is solid.

If you want good 'ol action gaming then Castelvania: Dawn of Sorrow just came out and is also getting great reviews everywhere, haven't played it personally, but am going to grab it soon.

As well as Jump Superstars, and Jam with the Band, two games that came out in Japan and look like fun and interesting games, which shall be ported eventually, or you could just buy the import right now if you can understand it/willing to deal with the japanese.

All in all, grabbing the DS + Super Mario 64 for $130 was a great purchase in my eyes.

***OH and it's ability to play Game Boy Advanced games makes it that much cooler as you can play some ones that you may not have played if you didn't have a GBA like Final Fantasy Tactics, Wario Land 4 (underrated), Golden Sun, etc, etc.***

YEEHA.. :D youre so right.. i've had mine for some time now, it rocks!

BTW, gonna buy Wipeout Pure tomorrow!

sorry for double-post, but WacK, I bought Wipeout Pure and it kicks major ass! have fun!

You guys haven't mentioned Lumines. But maybe that's because the DS has Meteos.

My 3 reasons for PSP:
Wipeout Pure
Lumines
Homebrew -- NES Emulator FTW!

EDIT: Oh wait a minute, you guys DID mention Lumines ... my bad....

I think I'll go for DS. I hope games will implement the touchscreen well and Advanced Wars on the DS has me almost wetting my pants.
Most of the arguements I've heard for the PSP are either that it has *insert franchise that I get get a superiour version of it on the PS2 here* coming to it or that it has X,Y and Z functions that I don't really care about while the DS sounds like it has some really original and fun stuff.

PSP for me, imo it got some good games and some very cool games coming. Especially LocoRoco, take a look at it (and listen to the awesome music). :)

And a nice trailer - http://media.psp.ign.com/media/772/772060/vids_1.html

The DS looks nice, and I would sure get one if I had money. :)

PSP is just another handheld with better graphics for me, i love the capabilities of DS, shame about the games though

PSP = play 500+ old school games for nes/Snes/Genesis and turbo gfx 16.
plus i got about 25 PSP games and their all free.

Which games have you tried, Gui? (most people i've met who don't rate the DS have very little experience with it, or know what great games are available)

I defy anyone here to try 6 player Band Bros. and not instantly fall in love with it. Or to play Osu! Tatakae! Oendan! and not smile from ear to ear the whole time. Try getting drunk with a few mates and loading up Electroplankton. There are more decent DS games than I have money to by, or time to play.

Much depends in what you want from a handheld I guess. Being very much into multiplayer games the DS is clearly the better choice. It also has more games suited to gaming on the move (this is a handheld after all) and also has a great deal of original titles that we couldn't experience anywhere else (it's this that draws me to the DS the most)

I can understand people who haven't experienced the type of games the PSP offers deciding to purchase one - but i've owned 4 versions of Wipout, 3 versions of Burnout, 4 versions of Ridge Racer, 2 versions of Toca, and 3 versions of GTA. None offer anything new. If I had to play them again it would be on a big tv with analogue control, not on a tiny screen with digital.

The DS has made me remember why I got into gaming in the first place. Creative, simple, and fun games that feel completely new.

Horses for courses.

If I manage to get a job, I'm considering buying a handheld. Thing is, I can't decide :( The DS has more origonal, fun to play games that are suited for a handheld- whereas the PSP has MGS: Acid, GTA, Medieval and loads of UMD films. On second thoughts, I could just save up for a 3rd generation console (the revolution is looking HAWT), but that takes patience (and they can't fit into your pocket).

Both have horrible games out so far (exception being Lumines which effing owns for PSP), but in the long run, I think the PSP will get the better games. Devil May Cry, Viewtiful Joe, Metal Gear, a good Sonic game (Rush doesn't count), GTA, and Katamari Damacy just to name a few.

So, don't buy it now, wait until later. But the decision is clear, PSP all the way.

What's wrong with Sonic Rush?, I think it looks very good. Viewtiful Joe looks great on both machines. The other games you mention should be good - but we've already played them to death on the PS2.

A few things we agree on, Lumines owns :) (it's up there with Meteos on the DS imo) and now is not the time to buy a PSP. Wait untill some decent games arrive.

You're wrong about the current DS games though - there are some very decent titles already available.

yea meteos is pretty fun, but besides meteo the only other DS game i enjoyed was mario 64. i bought nintendogs for my lil brother & sister, but they dont even play it.

The way I look at it, the PSP is a powerhouse with mp3 player, portable dvd, games with brilliant graphics... but nothing on the PSP particularly engages me. The DS, however... Oendan! Advance Wars: Duel Strike! Electroplankton! Not to mention Nintendogs. I've got a mp3 player for a reason, i don't feel like shelling out $500 for a combined mp3,dvd,games machine when the games aren't really my thing...

Only reason i would ever buy a PSP is maybe if they release a final fantasy on it. And i mean like an official one (One in the 'numbers' line-up, i.e. from about FFVII onwards' as opposed to, say, Tactics Advance or Dawn of Souls. Although those are fun, too.)

OMG YOU'VE PLAYED OENDAN!!!!

I wuv u, Warbie!

*apologies for double post, but I've only met 1 other person who's played Oendan*

Right back at ya

I'm glad you mention Advance Wars too. Being a fan of the series I just wanted more of the same, which it is - but with lovely touch screen control. It's responsive, fluid, and the result is a Advance Wars which feels completely rejuvenated. Imagine FF Tactics on the DS :)

I'm tempted to pick up Castlevania and Jump Superstars too. 4 player Superstars must be insanely good fun :)

I'd just like t point something out. I will never buy a UMD film. I don't want to squint at the brilliant special effects of the Matrix. And I already have an MP3 player so neither of those things excite me in the least.

PSP since the next GTA game will only come to PSP and itll be multiplayer :D

Advance Wars: Dual Strike is a game that warrants the purchase of a DS for just one game. IT OWNS.

It's kept me engaged for a month now, the campaign is long and sometimes brutal, and there's a whole 'nother hard campaign, too. Plus, there's even a real-time mini-game :D

PSP looks so much better, and it can do so much more I think, plus the games for it are better i'd say.

I hate you both. But it's partly my fault for not being an active importer. And for being close-minded about games not in English.

I'm still praying for a translated version.

Take the plunge - you get the games cheaper and earlier :) Many need no english to be fully playable and many aren't released outside of Japan, which is a shame.

Once you start you wont turn back.
