So I got the PSP and sure enough, there's three dead pixels splat in the middle of the screen....not stuck, dead. So I returned the SOB today and got a new one....checked it in the store and didn't notice anything. I get home and check it again....I have SEVEN dead all along the bottom of the screen and one in the middle. This really sucks, because the screen truely is an incredible site to behold....it's beautiful. The movies are really nice and crisp, but the goddam dead pixels are absolutly ruining the experience.

So, I guess my question is...how many times did anyone here have to exchange theirs until you got one that is acceptable (ie. 1 or 2 dead or stuck pixels in an unnoticable position)?? Thanks guys....I appreciate any feedback on how long this is going to persist until I find one that's all cool.

Email Sony about this, maybe they will give you a free "fix"

I probobly would, but Best Buy has been really cool, surprisingly, and they told me to bring it back again if there's any probs. I just wanna know, typically, how long I should expect this to continue.

That's unfortunate :/

My mates PSP had no dead pixels, neither did his brothers.

Maybe 3rd time lucky? :)

Did you get Lumines btw? Very cool game :) ..... best on the system imo (up there with Meteos on the DS)

Yeah...I'm hoping it was just bad luck, but who knows.....I hadn't planned on getting one so soon anyway, but I'll keep fighting until I feel my needs as a consumer are met....that's what $250 should buy you. As you said...third times a charm.

Actually I went with Untold Legends and a few movies. I'm planning on getting Lumines sometime, but WarioWare is still my addiction on the DS....as far as mini/puzzle games go anyway. When that wears down on me a little, I'll go pick up Lumines.

:) How is Untold Legends? I'd love a new 'Gauntlet'

Also, check out Meteos as well as Lumines (made by the same guy/company responsible for Lumines) Both are top titles.

(been playing Kirby and Yoshi's Touch and Go a good deal over the last 2 weeks too - these are the type of games the DS was designed for. Excellent stuff)

I only have 1 dead pixel and you can only see it when the screen is fully white and u pritty much have to look for it very hard to even see it. So I can't even be assed getting a new one. Mine is fine :P I have had it since janunary and plaied it quite a lot so the whole deal about dead pixels suddenly apearing because of use seems to be bullshit :P

Well if they stop being friendly, demand your money back & go to another store & do it over again :) Do you have a gun you can wave around with just in case? ;)

A little pistol-whippin never hurt anyone.

Suppose I'll just keep firin' away until I get one thats decent.

Well folks the final count was 7 PSPs before I found one that was acceptable. Even the manager at Best Buy was over there telling them "get him another, this one ain't worth it." I was about to take one and he stopped me and told the media guy to gab another. It was hilarious. Together, we went through 3 today.

Yeah, I have three scattered pixels that show up when the screen is fullblack, and they are somewhere around 50% grey. They don't detract at all, except for during loading and I try to dust them off every time (d'oh!) ><

My friends were mostly scoffing at my psp purchase, then they played Lumines and now I have to wrench it away from them whenever it's time to leave.

Is Sony planning on fixing this because i was planning on buying one but with all this crap Im second questioning it or atleast till there is a fix.

This is a hardware defect, not something there can be "a fix" for. There are inevitably defects in LCD screens, you just have to decide if it is really distracting or just minor.

Well, my experience has been one of cooperation. Best Buy was totally cool. The manager wanted me to leave completly satisfied and literally brought like 5 PSPs up to the counter and flat out said we're gonna find one that's right. He commented on having like 80 units in the past couple weeks built up that he's has to send back to Sony. He was telling me a dude went through 5 at the counter yesterday and he was helping him the same way he helped me. It seems to me that the employees that have to deal with this are more pissed off at Sony than they are a person like me for being anal. Everyone there was totally understanding.

I'd definitly bring a memory stick with some images to help you detect dead/stuck pixels....ie. black, white, red, blue and green. That way you can just be like, it's no good....lets try again. If you find one that's acceptable to your standards, it truely is a worthwhile purchase.....but you're definitly going to have to be picky. As I said before....the final count was seven PSPs for me. Don't feel bad or stupid for asking to get another right at the counter..... it's your $250....but I would definitly get one even now....after all the shit I had to sift through.

I've got one. It doesnt bug me. I'd return it if I felt that I wasted the 250 though.
