I am just curious, what things can you do with them besides gaming?

Around here they are about 200 bucks. I have a new computer, so there's not really a need for one, but maybe in like a year if the price goes down or I really want one.

So are there any great applications for it? The likelihood of me getting one is slim, I'd rather save 200 hundred to eventually help me get something else in the future, but I was just wondering.

Get it for the Custom Firmware/emulators and homebrew.

What ^he^ said.

Mine is a virtual arcade full of all the best Genesis, NES, and SNES games...not to mention everything the SCUMMVM plays. Its incredible.:E

What do you do to store all the roms? I may be getting a PSP at some point, and I'd like to know the ins and outs.

Do you have a DS? If not, buy that. Or buy the special STALKER: Clear Sky edition instead.

All goes on the memory stick. 2 gb should suffice

I have one and I like it, but mainly I use it when I commute (I live in a big city). It's not really a system where you really sit down to really play it. There are some great triple-A titles for it, but you'll probably burn through them fairly quick if you play it like a PC or Console. It's also a system that benefits a lot when you have others around you to play it in WiFi mode.

As for great apps, I haven't really kept up to date on the homebrew scene. I mainly use it for games as I have a phone and iPod to handle the other duties that the PSP is capable of. I have PSP, PS1 and SNES games on it.

You need a memory stick and custom firmware. The PSP comes with a cable to plug into the USB and the rest is history.

edit: 2 GB seems a bit smallish for me, I went with a 4 GB package with the PSP.

Very complicated setup. It's better to have someone you know do it for you. Lets you do different things, and some even lets you play some PS1 games.

It's not very hard at all. I did it, which is saying something. Only took like maybe an hour.

My 13 year old brother did it, so I guess it's not that complicated.

Depends which version of the PSP you're buying. I'll assume you're getting a new one, in which case you'll need a Pandora Battery and a Memory stick with the custom firmware loaded on it.

My roomie bought one, but she wanted Crazy Taxi and a few other games that bad. So I used that fact to buy a couple of cheapo games. I regret buying Final Fantasy Tactics though. They pulled a "Chrono Trigger" on it :(

But yeah, it's a great platform for loading up emulators on it and playing some good ol' SNES games!

They're alright played with friends PSP for a bit.
But, I almost bought one just for the handheld GTAs... then I knocked some sense into myself.

Meh. They're good for emulators and whatnot but beyond that, they're poo.

You can have PS1 games from the PlayStation Store, I do believe.

I use my psp as an mp3 player most of the time actually, also got all the star wars movies on it for easy access.

PSP is a good system, only like $200 or something like that now, you may as well buy one, does alot of shit, worth it imo.
