puddle and dripping water

can anyone explain or direct me to tutorials explaining how to make puddles of water and water dripping from a cieling of some sort. thanks
 
puddle = decal
drip-drop sound = wav file
drip-drop effect = func_precipitation? I've not used it but that might work. Alternately a scrolling material perhaps.
 
It's a brush entity. Definitely should not have been prefixed with env in the code, since every other environmental effect is point-based, but meh, Valve are inconsistent. The point-based ladders should have been prefixed with info, not func. Water_lod_control should have been info_waterlodcontrol or something.

In HL1 we used blue or white blood from an env_blood entity to make dripping water. You can try that if you like. We would also use an env_beam with a special dripping-water sprite sometimes.
