Puegeot 306 1.4 LX for 1st car?

Im thinking of getting a 1997 Puegeot 306 1.4 LX for my 1st car. I was gonna get a 1995 Volkswagen Golf 1.4CL but for the same price its only the basic model with no elec windows, abs, or sunroof.

Has anyone got a Pug 306? Whats good/bad about them

I'd say go for the 306, it may be french, but it's a reasonably good small car

I own a 1998 306 xi 2.0. It's a nice car, things you ought to know are : the clutch/gearbox, it doesn't feel sturdy, shifting gear feels broken. I had a few other problems but those were either onboard computer related or my way of driving. Parts aren't too expensive and they drive very enjoyable, so go for it.

I paid £1000 for my first car ... it only had 54k on the clock, has alloys, air conditioning, ABS, electric windows, remote central locking, twin airbags, lovely black interior ... and its only 7 years old (R reg) ... not too shabby for a grand! Full service history with vauxhall, too...

You just have to look past the fact it's a Vectra.
