the answer to life, the universe, and everything.

...or maybe heroine, whatever is easiest...

According to a random website I read once, Tarantino supposedly was going to put diamonds in the briefcase. However, while filming, he decided that it would be more interesting to just leave it open to the audience.

Also, there is a myth that it was supposedly Marcellus Wallace's soul. This was backed by the fact that a large band-aid on the back of Mr. Wallace's neck. According to some mythology, this is where the soul is removed in deals with Satan (I believe). However, apparantly, there was something wrong (don't remember exactly what, a scar or something) with the actor's neck, so he decided that he wanted to put a band-aid over it before shooting, and it has nothing to do with the screenplay of the film.

Another interesting fact: The "Bad Motherf*cker" wallet actually belonged to Tarantino.

Judging by the colouration of the crook who sees it, its either some type of metal (Gold) or a f**cking big wad of drugs or cash.

I heard about the soul bit.

The reason Vincent and Jules were saved is because they just "saved" somebody's soul from supposed evil and God "stopped the bullets".

Yep. And since...
Jules accepts this as a miracle, and Vincent does not, Jules lives on and Vincent is killed.

But that's just a theory, and it looked unintentional to me.

I've never even given it a second thought... O_O

Then you got this crazy theory of why
Vincent dies and Joules doesnt
...it's nuts..never thought about it that much. Great movie though.

Awesome movie, love it...but I think the soul thing is unintentional. As for whats in the briefcase, I've no idea. Gold!

Great theory, I've never thought about it that way :O

Vic Vega (Mr. Blonde) and Vincent Vega are related and Tarantino still is hoping to make a pre-quel to Reservoir Dogs / Pulp Fiction called "The Vega Brothers"

Has nothing to do with the suitcase, but still some trivia

John Travolta has been willing to do this for a while now, as well, so its a good possibility.

Tarantino is just busy with fantastic movies like "Hostel." :upstare:

The jewels from Reservoir Dogs, I'm guessing.

The right answer is that there is nothing in it, i saw on the DVD it's something in movies called a 'MacGuffin' which is a plot device put into the movie to move the plot along even though it has no real meaning. i.e. Tarantino needed a mysterious briefcase, but never decided what would be inside it, and it turns out it didn't matter.

Fans still come up with theories anyway, as well as the ones above there are suggestions such as Elvis's golden suit from True Romance and the diamonds from Resevoir Dogs...

That doesn't make sense since nobody made it out with the diamonds

yea, it was nothing. I hate it when directors do things like that, because then it leads to all this speculation, just close all the ends!

Kinda like at the end of 'lost in translation' when he whispered in her ear. He said SOMETHING, well just never know what.

Mr Pink did, didn't he?

Personally I thought it was most likely to be the briefcase from RD but it's also a McGuffin.

Listen more closely at the end after Pink escapes

He runs out, you hear gunshots and a cop say "He's hit!" and then they arrest him

It's a vibrator..GEEZ, finally, someone listens to me.
