Purchasing question

I was wondering if you bought Half-Life 2 in the box, and it corresponds your Half-Life 2 with your steam account, will you still have the capability of downloading the game from somewhere else over Steam? My impression so far has been that if you purchase over Steam, then you can download from anywhere, but I have not heard this for the cd version despite the fact that you will have a Steam account corresponding to your cd.

I'm almost SURE that this question has been answered , but my reason for asking is that there are a lot of threads about it. I have sifted through many of them without finding an answer to my question

I doubt it but on the other hand, I don't see why not.

But really you'd only ever want to do that if you lost the CD, which most people wouldn't. That's why I doubt it'd be possible.

But basically as Steam will be used as authenticating similar to how WON used to work with HL1 based games then again it shouldn't be a problem. Once you get the game on CD you'll have to have it authenticated by Steam to your account, therefore only one person at a time would be able to use your copy of HL2, whether that be at the cyber cafe, home, office or the local library and therefore logic tells me that there'd be no problems caused if you had the CD, went to a friends house, wanted to play but forgot the CD, so downloaded the content at your friends house.

That one could go either way, but in other ways it doesn't matter. The CD can be installed on any computer, but can only be used by one computer at a time.

When you buy the game you supposedly put in some information from the copy you bought and it gives you access to HL2 (it knows you already paid for it) and related stuff (like free mods) via Steam. You can download it to multiple places but like HL1 only one copy can be online at any given time.

Damn it! I cant wait to buy this, this is going to be my second game I ever bought ...Half-Life 1 being the 1st.
I usually just download everything, but Im BUYING Half-Life 2 cuz it ownz!
