I think this game looks awesome. I like the way steam keeps all the game content current with updates.
I want to play this game with 3D glasses - does anyone know if it has been "Meant to be Seen"/MTBS certified (mtbs3D.com)?

Regards,

And no I dont recall it being MTBS certified lol.

You don't have to dream about playing it in 3D, you can just go to Ravenholm and live it!

games haven't used the 3d glasses in a long long time.

its unbeliveable.. you have deleted all my posts and likays one.. just for asking stereosupport...

bye...

Stereo support? Bullshit, you wanted 3D glasses support. Bye.

Hi Guys!

A couple of our members told me about this thread. There were some deletions , some bannings, and three more are in hospital. :naughty:

Can you fill me in on what happened? Was there some kind of misunderstanding?

Spambots have got better these days, I see.

Or companies have simply gotten actual people to do it.

Whichever.

omg, this guy simply cannot give up. you have to IP ban him, unless he is a dynamic IP ******....

What the **** people, are you guys all on dope? They're all different people, as can be clearly seen if you just click the link. Now you've just given them an incredibly bad impression of halflife2.net.

Seriously, straighten up.

Wait 'till they meet Shasta.

Wait 'till they meet Shasta.

We've sealed Shasta in a box marked "Hazardous - Highly flammable" for a while.

And this topic confuses me, didn't 3D-glasses go out of fashion like ten years ago? I remember looking at those weird red/green dinosaur images in the school libraries with a pair of shoddy paper glasses. I couldn't use them anyway, my eyes are too crummy. :(

Also, looking at your list; Civ 4? Why? What's the point?

Ok that's an odd reception of actually a very nice suggestion anyone would benefit from.

Some misunderstandings: stereo support as it was mentioned has nothing to do with audio, it is the technique that shutterglasses depend upon. Shutterglasses are the most common one but the technique can be applied broader and better. Driver or gamewise there is no difference by the way.

Games don't really get developed for 3D glasses but that doesn't mean you can't use them! I am playing HL 1, 2 and episode 1 in 3D, and it is astonishingly beautifull. So are Farcry, Ages of Empires 3 and alot of other games.

I never tested Civ4 in 3D, but it could be fun! I know Ages of Empires 3 is a very cool one! If you wonder why, imagine playing more with a living maquette than just some flat 2D thing. Mountains coming out of your screen and smoke drifting by.

The Halflife tree has been my most favorite games ever, and they play superb in 3D. So why the request if it is so cool already? The problem is in the way stereo is generated. The game is not totally prepared for that. In the case of HalfLife 2 that means that I can have almost every graphical effect, but I can't have a good HUD and crosshair (these are 2D things, and give problems.) A pretty easy change in the game could change all that and give the 3D a good HUD, perhaps a crosshair that makes sense in 3D and better post effects support.

At the moment I aim with the trails the bullets leave, works fine for me but is not 100% ideal. (no sniping with the big revolver for me for instance, and no HUD so no idea how much health I got)

Hope this cleared some things up...

By the way, MTBS is just an initiative of an enthousiast to try and get this super technique working and supported for once instead of tweaking and problems. No spam or anything..

hmm long post.. :|

edit ps: In time, 3D gaming will become big I am sure of it and you will too if you have ever played HL2 on a good stereo system. Prices will come down too and we will all laugh about that stupid "2D" time.. :) I hope :)

I'm sorry for that, but that's my impression though. The first post and people starts screaming spam and draw their crowbars...

never mind

Certain people on these forums tend to be hostile to newcomers. It seems everyone is suspected of being either a pirate or a spammer.

Never.

Ever.

Figure of speech. I play quite some old games but it keeps amazing me how cool I thought they looked then and how crappy they seem now (looks, not gameplay). The whole push in gfx is towards reality and immersion and the normal 2d way to try and approach that seems to be giving diminishing returns.

So ok maybe not all will laugh, but when comparing my 3D Halflife 2 gaming experience with Doom 1 the other day, the immersion has stepped up a great amount and alot of it due to the 3D play.

Some don't have good ideas about 3D due to perhaps crappy shutterglasses of the past etc.. but there's a good reason why alot of big companies are pushing 3D technology that will hit markets soon. (Philips, Samsung, Dolby)

And perhaps 3D is not perfect for all types of games, but FPS may greatly gain from it.

i remember playing this game called 3D dinosaur when i was a kid. I don't want to play 3D gordon.

... 3D glasses are stupid. -.-

Nuh-uh! Not when ther're implemented right. I have a pair of E-Dimensionals, but the ATI driver they had for them didn't work that well back when I got 'em, might be better now. Quite cool with the things it did work with. Nvidia has had stereo support built in for a while now.

nowadays, 3d glasses are NOT the blue-red type. They use polariser 3d glasses instead now, by projecting a special image using a special projector, but I don't think it is possible with monitors..

Sure it's possible with monitors. Shutter glasses do this by alternating blocking the left and right eye, and displaying offset interlaced frames. It basically halves your refresh rate, though.

With a risk to get my head chopped off.. Yes, there are a lot of people playing their games in 3D (incl myself). For appr 5 years ago Nvidia released a special 3d-stereodriver for gaming in 3D. The drivers are updated more or less regularly.
Forget those red/green glasses... they belong in the 80's... though you can still use them since the stereodriver support it.
Nowadays 3d-gamers use shutterglasses, planarvision setups, hmd's or like myself: polarized projectorrig in combination with polarized glasses (like the ones you wear at an IMAX cinema).
The stereodriver handles the separation and gives through the hardware needed two different views to each eyes. Therefore you have real 3D-experience.

For your information i can tell you that HL2 works almost perfect in 3D. (almost because when setting the 3D the way i want it the HUD is rendered more or less outside the screen). It would be good if it could be rendered at screen dept though.

As someone said: "i remember playing this game called 3D dinosaur when i was a kid. I don't want to play 3D gordon."
You can't really compare 3d dinosaurs with HL or HL2. I promise you: If you once try gaming in 3D you'll most probably will turn opinion. You gotta try it first before mention you don't like it.

The difference in playing 2D and 3D is exactly like the difference of having one eye compared to having two.

I started to play my games in 3D for about 3 years ago.

Sorry if my english lacks a bit...

cheers

V-Man's opinion on 3-D gaming

I think that 3-D gaming sounds cool, but only if they implement it right and they don't overdo it. Remember the Virtual Boy?

Actually the situation is quite ok as is now. A lot of games are playable in 3D (estimated 70-80% of all games). Chances are pretty good that newer games also works directly from the resellers shelves inspite of the fact that the latest stereodriver is over a year old. To make games fully compatible there's just a few things the game developers could have in mind making games. It's more or less the fact that we see the games and characters as they are made by the developers. Everything is placed where they place it. The computer and the graphiccard already have the information in 3D. It's just when the data is sent to the monitor it's converted to 2D (as is for most people now).
And regarding the virtualboy: The idea was great though. Never had one myself but that unit suffered from bad quality images (was it only one color?) and eyestrain. The eyestrain was most probably caused by exaggerated stereosettings. This can also be accomplished using to much separation and /or convergence in the stereodriver. The advantage now is that those parameters easily can be adjusted to suit everyones personal needs.

Too bad there's so few knowing about gaming in 3D though.

cheers

Had to look up Virtualboy, never heard of it as it hasn't even been sold in Europe it seems...

If anyone wants to test 3D gaming for just a few $, use anaglyph glasses. I know they drop colors and have a bit of ghosting but they can be had for very little and they do give you a taste of 3D.. Nothing else needed, just anaglyph glasses and the Nvidia beta stereo driver. If you like it, go to a bit more $ for shutterglasses, or go beyond and build your own Imax 3D.. :)
