Well, I was watching history channel, and they had something about secret stuff of WWII. They were then talking about some super carrier during world war II that was to be made of an ice/sawdust combination of materials called pykrete. I'm surprised I never heard of this stuff before. Quite interesting!

Just for quick information on the stuff, read this.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pykrete

They were describing on the show, that the guys who first developed it, showed it to a bunch of military guys, with a normal block of ice as well, and shot them each with a pistol. Of course the normal block of ice shattered, but the bullet ricocheted off the pykrete block and into one of the important people's leggs, nicking it. Heh.

I can only imigine the uses of it even today.

Wow, thats pretty neat stuff..
If a .303 caliber bullet is fired at the pykrete, it will penetrate only 6.5 inches
Geez... if i knew anything about guns id be impressed.

Apparently there were discussions on the possible usages of Pykrete, and some were about building gigantic manmade islands of the stuff where people could escape their governments and live in a sort of isolated community. Not something i'd want to do, but... hey, whatever ya want. Though, somebody would have to pay to support all those people. Heh.

Maybe the combines make their masks out of pyrakete? :O That's probably why they wont die sometimes even when they took a headshot :p

Ooh I've heard about this stuff before.. it's a shame it wasn't really used for anything

edit: Heh wouldn't living on a ship made out of pykrete be really friggin cold? :P
edit2: Cause, you couldn't really heat it much... and replacing the melted stuff would get annoying.. :P

Why would I want to live on a ship made by Pykrete? :p

The Pykrete supposedly can survive without melting much in warm temperatures, and how it didn't melt as much compared to normal ice. They kind of demonstrated this with putting the block of ice in a tub. I dunno, I would imigine to some degree they'd be able to heat the place to accomodate people. Nothing like 70 degrees or anything maybe not, but I dunno. WHo knows really :bounce:

Yeah I knew it melted slower than normal ice.. but that much slower? :O cooool

aha UBER ice :D, they can make anything UBER these guys, go team!
