Q: Choppy Game Play

Just started playing HL2 (yeah i know i'm a little behind the trends), but I'm having a problem playing the game on my desktop at home. While playing the storyline the game will freeze up, like it can't handle all the action going on and will take a few seconds to process everything that just happen.

Is there anything i can do to get the game to work more smoothly or should i just give up and get a new computer ?? Thanks

I'm not best with computers but, this is what is listed on my Dell system.
-Pentium® 4 Processor(3.00GHz, 800 FSB)
-512MB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 400MHz (2x256M)
-Video Cards Integrated Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 900IV

my informed guess says that this is definitely your problem
i'm suprised you can run the game at all
with an integrated card your using the RAM and while you have 512mb that does not mean you have a 256mb card or anything near the performance of a 32mb card simply because it wasnt designed with a game like hl2 in mind
so kudos on getting the game to run in the first place but you should definitely upgrade

Get a new graphics card. At LEAST a Radeon 9600.

Yep, it's the integrated graphics causing you problems.
