Q re: buying CS:CZ key on eBay

Hi All,

I read about people buying CD Keys on eBay for Condition Zero for $10 - $15, which I've always wanted to play, but not enough to shell out the $30. Can you help me with some questions:

1. Is it safe (I've gone through feedback and stuff from the big sellers and people seem satisfied)
2. Is this legal? I don't want to cheat Valve in any way...
3. I would like to understand just HOW these people get all these keys? Did they fall off of a truck? Using key generators? If this is legal, then where are these keys coming from?
4. Could you share your thoughts on whether going this route is a good idea?

Hope this is the right forum for this...and thanks in advance for everyone's thoughts and comments - they are appreciated! ;)

I can answer to number #3 for you: people who purchased the game realizing later they don't like it. And just for your information, cd_key generators can't create valid online keys.

1. Yes
2. Yes
3. They probably come from unsold copies, or they make more/equal profit selling Keys only.

There's only a very small chance that it doesn't work, if that happens, file a complaint with ebay or try and get a refund. I've bought 2 CD-Keys from ebay, both worked and I received them in like 1 hour after I sent payment.

1. Yes
2. Yes
3. Game sells for less in other countries like Hong Kong and Thailand so they can sell it cheaper to foreigners over eBay. There's a further discount from not having to post it too.
4. I think it's a good idea. That's how I got mine.

I just bought a retail copy of CZ for $18 on eBay a month after it came out :) Even had the HL2 Bink CD..

Alright, thanks everyone - I think I'm going to go for it - your comments are appreciated!

yes i too bought my cz off ebay and had my cd key within about 1 minute of winning the auction... very sweet, i was playing cz about 10 minutes after i bought the dang thing.. gotta love steam

God damn you all! I wish I would have read the damn thing before. I just bought it for $30 and its getting shipped!!! BALLS!!!

:naughty: Yep just type in a valid CD-Key BAM your done. It's what i've been searching for to no avail...

I have have one question.

I've bought one, registered it with my steam account, and alls okay.... now does this mean no-one else can use this now its registered to me? Or can it be registered over multiple accounts (i.e. the guy who I bought it off can make loads off just one key).

:dozey: Nope, it belongs to you now. I managed to find a CD-Key for my CS:CZ, but unfortunately it was already being used, they'll give you a message saying something it is valid but already being used.

Cool. Aslong as I get to beta CS:Source I'd say it was money well spent then :)

I have purchased 3 keys from eBay and all have worked. It would, however, be a good idea to let the guy set it up for you because my first two keys were from a chinese guy who said he would either give me the key and no promises on getting another if I say it doesn't work because he had too many people lie to him or he would set it up for me. When he did, I noticed he tried two that didn't work(maybe he forgot to delete them, I dasn't know) before getting a working one in. I almost lost my $28(for 2)!

Edit: http://stores.ebay.com/CS-CZ-Unlimited-cd-key is where I got my first two. Let him enter it in for you and you shall be fine(just change your password first so you can change it back later).

I bought a key today after reading this thread :) And I had vowed never to buy CZ, oh well :p Just search for, "Condition Zero Key" and it should come up with a load of results for you to choose from. Just look for someone who sells a lot of CZ keys, and has high positive feedback (also look for feedback that says the key was delivered quickly.)

I got the key fairly quickly, but it didn't work. After waiting for the seller to check his e-mail again (20 minutes maybe) he told me he would set it up for me. Since he had no negatives in his feedback, I trusted him. Just make up a temporary password, and let them set it up for you. He got it to work, and I was on my way to playing (after changing my password back ;)) It was a good amount of entertainment for the small amount of money I paid.

That was what convinced me to buy it, I was only thinking about it before :) VALVe's ploy to sell more CZ copies is working on me :p Now all we have to do is wait for the beta to come

argh! you need credit card at all the places :(

I know some places where you dont need it to pay, but you need one to register.

Any1 know where i can get it without needing a credit card?
pleease :( I realy want CZ :(

This is a pretty good marketing strategy on VALVe's part. Look at how many people are rushing out to buy CZ because of the CS:S beta. Good way to inject some interest/hype back into CZ.

A shop.

Good place

Most all ebay auctions accept paypal (http://www.paypal.com), and you can add funds to your paypal account directly from a canadian or US bank account.

Not sure if you live in US or Canada, but if you do, that might work for you.
