Untextured for now, my skinner needs to finish it. This model took only one and a half hours to make in Maya, fully UVed, fully animated, fully exported, and fully working in game on the mod Quake Source.

it looks so cool in the game :)

Stats {
Polygons: 782 triangles
Groups: 4
Textures: 4 (sadly)
animations: 4 (all we need)
}

... do you cal that a "grenade launcher" ? what does it shoot ? bowling balls ?

It's too large/wide. Except for the basic shape of it, it barely looks like the Quake 2 grenade launcher. It needs much more work.

what? you expect me to make it look exactly like Q2? the animation is very true to Q2 that jsut the general shape of it gets the message across.

Quake Source is to make it feel alot like quake, not be an exact replica :p there are some very original touches in thsi mod. lol.

no, bouncy grenades that explode on human impact. Very powerful when shot at the right time, and very lethal when in the hands of a seasoned professional.

I cant see what people are winging about, i think you done a nice job there. I can see alot of the old one in there and some of your own work. I really like it.

thanks man. Its nice to hear comments like that. I think it bears a very nice resemblance to the original, but as you stated, there are a couple things of my own here.

its nice it just needs a the quake style of texturing to go on it to make it shine .
does ur mod havea webby?

Yeah my sentiments exactly...

yeah check my signature. Its a pretty lame site at the moment, but tis got pics and dev videos, soon will include a developers journal (also known as .plan files), its getting a revision by a professional web designer, but itll take a small chunk of time to get that up and going. However the forums are up and shining :)

Dont use reflections, it makes the model look worse in this case

The quality of your work reflects the fact u only spent 1.5 hours on it.

maybe some more distinguishing factors? people dont like the same old stuff regurgitated over and over again.

i find the idea pretty neat, but quake will never run as it should on the HL engine, the feeling of the quake series is what made it so damn good, and bringing that to the completly different kinda engine will not do it any good imHo. But it's worth the try. About the model, it can be improved on a lot of area's (as do the models on your site) but it looks close enough (i hope the texture will save this modeling, cause everything rests upon the textures on these low-poly models :p

gl with the mod

I believe it is a very nice model, espcially if it is as you said: Not intended to be an exact replica. I believe the only reason it is getting so much flak is because this is a Half-Life 2 website. I believe any cross-conversion would recieve just as hard of time: Halo Series, Unreal Series... etc. (Personally, I played Halo 1 for the first time yesterday and didn't see what was so special about it. I'm a PS2 person, and I didn't see how the graphics were so great-- and I did take into account that Halo 1 is several years old. Other than massive maps, the game didn't seem to evolved beyond Perfect Dark. (Which is just an extension of Golden Eye-- Both excellent games by the way.) I like the Unreal Series, though I'm a sniper at heart so it isn't really my kind of enviroment-- too fast. As far as Quake, I only ever played Quake 2 or 3, whichever was on the PS(2?) so long ago. I just remembered it had a killer rail driver. (Imagine: Rail Driver + Cross Bow "Sticky" Effect :D) At anyrate, my point is:

It's a good model. You know it's a good model. I just think this might have been the wrong time/place to show it. *shrugs* But you'll always have that. Do what you want, how you want. Then when it works, lean back, smile and say I told you so. :D
