Just beat it yesterday playing from early morn til late night with a decent number of breaks..

If you haven't bought it yet, do yourself a favor and go get it..! The singleplayer was absolutely incredible. IMO it beats out FEAR, Doom 3, and even Half Life 2 in certain respects. Half Life 2 does a great job with the music, and the whole world atmosphere makes you feel truly immersed as Gordon Freeman.. HL2 is a great adventure experience.. but the challenge and battles were slightly lacking, due to the abundance of health and lack of real heart pounding battles where you fight furiously and barely escape with several health left.

Quake 4 is that game I've been waiting for.. That game I've thought about in my head and wondered to myself "Why haven't they made a game like THIS yet?". Huge variety of enemies that all kick ass.. Awesome level design.. The parts where you work with squad mates was absolutely superb.. superb squad AI and I have no complaints about the enemy AI either..

I played it on the Leiutenant difficulty (4th of the 5) and it was the perfect challenge for a veteren soldier, like myself. Enemies are awesome, and just perfectly tough enough. It's actually the first game that's come out where I had to do certain battles more than 5 times. Usually I can beat harder battles in the first attempt or two in HL, Fear, and Doom 3, etc.

The screenshots just don't do any justice to this game.. I don't think I've played any game where I've said "HOLY SHlT!!!" so many times. Theres just so many cool events that happen... and things you see.. and the furious and intense battles are interspaced by just enough plot and interesting events that the fights get tedious and repetetive... omg it's an exciting game..

The bosses were cool as hell too. Why weren't there anything like those in Half Life 2? Damn!!! The level design was awesome and the vehicles were fun as hell... It kind of reminds me of a combination of all the good FPS games. Reviewers gave it bad marks for not doing anything "revolutionary". While it certainly didn't revolutionize the FPS world, what they did do is take all the best parts of all the best FPS and roll them together in one huge adventure. Halo 1, Halo 2, Half Life 1, Half Life 2, Doom, etc.. they are all there in one way or another.

I can't say enough about this game, except to once again say, THIS is the game I (and YOU) have been waiting for.

so many disagree on almost everything you think is good....
reviews of poor ai, lacklustre gameplay, poor level design, unimpressive graphics

Does HL2 just have one topic?
I'd hate to see more than one HL2 topic on a HL2 message board. :rolling:

Hey well I can't make it past the third level in Resurrection of Evil without getting so bored that I have to turn the game off.. Quake 4 puts you in the action straight out the gate.. I just think more people should play for themselves and not listen to the snob editors that think every "good" FPS must do something revolutionary like the gravity gun, timewalking, wall walking, etc etc. Theres nothing wrong with taking a formula that works and putting together the best game you can. We've seen it all before, but not so nicely presented.
