Quake IV - especially directed towards SP

From the article in that magazine, I gathered that they were giving equal focus to both SP and MP, or at least more so on MP than Doom 3 did.

id isn't even developing Quake IV. It's Raven.

Anyhow, they really need to make the game look less like Doom 3

Is Quake 4 on the Doom 3 engine or is Doom 3 on the Quake 4 engine or is there no relation between them?

This is going to sound wierd, but I think Quake 4 needs more red lighting. I remember playing Quake 2 and remembering how red everything was. It gave it such a distinct feeling from every other FPS.

PS - oldagerocker - Quake 4 is on the Doom 3 engine.

I like the quote on the new PC Gamer: "With Doom 3 it was horror. With Quake IV, it's war."

Quake 4 is on the Doom 3 Engine.

Valve has source, Crytek has Cryengine and Gsc has Xray. But what is the D3 engine called? Doom3 engine?

The multiplayer is a lot like Q3 according to the PC Gamer article. Some changes including support for vehicles and stuff though.

I thought it was mroe brown then red.... A lot of brown.

Yes. Brown walls with a lot of red and orange lights.

I hope it's a different game by then.

so youve played it then :P

hey I realise the gamer is the core of what keeps games alive, but to be blunt, give the dev's some appreciation, a tiny bit atleast.. it could be good, they sweat their nuts off, and get repetitive strain injuries for us , so we can play these games.

Doom III obviously didnt do it for ya, so why assume Quake 4 will be the same.

sorry, it jus pee's me off to see daft comments like this, it's just I know how much hard work goes into this stuff.

no offence :)

People should know, it's Raven Software's game, but id Software is keeping a close eye on Raven.

It looks like it's gonna be a $50 expansion pack for Doom 3.

I appreciate the effort developers put into games. I just hate it when I see it not being implemented as well as it could be. But of course, there isn't much I can say about the game from the scans I've seen. But what I can say is that I'm rather dissapointed by what I see. It looks exactly like Doom 3 with - well, nothing - It is Doom 3 with the Quake tag. I adored Quake 2 and have been waiting in anticipation for ages to see some Quake 4 screenshots, and especially after seeing the leaked high poly models and the concept art. But looking at the screenshots now it's jsut not what I was hoping to see.

And I enjoyed Doom 3. I just don't want to see Raven produce an exact replica with a differnt name coupled with a few bells and whistles.

Personally, I'm really into what they've revealed about this game so far. I thought the single player campaigns in both Q1 and Q2 added alot to the game (albeit not neccesarily due to their actual value). Example: I thought it was tons of fun to be able to set a server to cycle through every map in Q1 (single player or otherwise) and just duke it out on all of those maps. You could definitely tell who the veterans were when that was going on :). Plus, there's something about being able to kick ass in a single-player campaign AND multiplayer with the same weapons that's just cool for some reason. Don't ask me why...maybe just nostalgia. Anyway, digging what I've seen so far :).

Looks like a bad 80's sci-fi to me. The art direction doesn't look so hot. I mean I don't wanna be fighting cyborgs with enourmous nipples. :|

I really disliked the red/orangey-ness of the lighting, especially seeing as everything was so brown. I know it was in keeping with the game, but then in fairness I didn't think to much of the game anyways.
