quake live

So I just started playing quake live a few minutes ago and it's amazing -- really brings the memories of quake 3 arena and the best of twitch shooters back.

My question is -- how does quake live operate? I mean, I'm running it on my crappy ass laptop with no dedicated videocard to speak of, and quake live is in my browser running better and looking better than quake 3 ever did on my desktop back then.

What sort of graphics engine magic did ID software do?

Runs it through flash, which is hardware accelerated (probably through CPU, but I believe in Flash 10.1, they offload to GPU).
