Quake Wars demo out.

Meh. Was in the beta and its horrible they cant change the game in 1 month.

The beta was enough of a settle over until the full game comes out. I shall wait.

I might check it out, but i think I'll wait for some feedback from ya'll...

The official site says it will be up in a few hours :/

The beta was kick-ass , the only proplem is that there isnt any ragdoll.

...This thread baffles me.

Title says the demo is out, yet the most recent news posts on both of the sites are a few days old. :|

I didn't think the beta was all that, so I'm scepticle about the quality of the full games release

And just for info the clock on the QW site was set up based on the time on your computer... Wasn't that a wasted 40min on waiting. Still almost 6 hours to go :/

Ou and there's a torrent out there for the demo, at the ID site if I remember correctly. Don't download it, it's encrypted and not meant for public (no key will be give).

I think I'll download it just to see how well it runs on my computer.

The beta sucked, it was a terrible game and defiantly can't be resolved.

I'll pass.

i didn't like it, maybe i expected it to be in bf2 style.

I'll give the demo a spin just to check out the engine. I do not expect good things, though.

I was in the beta too, and I disliked the lack of ragdolls and more than 32 players.

This is funny....you guys all yelled at me when I said the game looks mediorcre :D.

I can tell some of you played for a few mins and gave up ..the game is head and shoulders above bf2 ..the complexity is what turns people off but there's far more to do than any other fps I've ever played ..there's a hundred ways to win a map ...but people would rather spend their time running and gunning ..oh and the maps are optomised for 24 players ..the fact that someone mentioned that not having 32 players is a negative tells me the person hasnt played the game ..24 players is the ideal set up for a server ..anything else just becomes the killing fields where you're constantly bombarded by artillery or killed as soon as you leave the spawn area

prove it, lets see some hi res videos or some decent gameplay thats proves us wrong. I havent played a minute of it, so I cant be taken too seriously, but just on looks and what I have seen, I think its junk

Can anyone confirm that the demo runs better than the beta?

Despite not enjoying QW as much as RTCW and ET, i'm still tempted to pick up. It'll never be the great clan game the previous two were, but should be a laugh with a few mates. Still poos on BF ;)

I have the demo and it runs pretty smoothly for me on 1280x1024. The game physics system is quite weird, driving a jeep off a ramp makes for some very..interesting situations. And no ragdoll? In a late 2007 game? That's quite ridiculous. So far I've played the demo for about 1 hour but I don't really think I'm going to buy this one.

did you play the first or second beta? the second beta vastly improved frame rate ..the first beta was almost unplayable for me, the second beta ran fine

well making a judgement based on graphics is silly. They touted the mega texture thingy up the wazooo ..I dont even notice it ..anyways dont knock till you've tried it for at least a few hours ..videos dont do it justice ..playing for an hour doesnt do it justice ...racking up 57 kills in a single round because you've filled it with booby traps and defense systems is something you wont discover till you've played for a few hours/days

Just the first. My pc is junk at the mo anyways, I just don't want to upgrade and for it to still run like poo.

That was really boring. I regret downloading the demo.

It plays like quake with deployable arty and tanks. Tactics seem to consist of either sit back and bombard the enemy with deployables until they build an interceptor turret or bunny hop your way to victory. The weapons have no "oomph" to them, you can burn entire magazines point blank into other players or shoot them in the face with a shotgun to no apparent effect, you can bring down a tank with an assault rifle if you shoot at it for long enough, teamwork, especially for the strogg is virtually non-existant (as the technician is the ultimate solo class) and it is generally unpleasant.

Some interesting features (like the deployables) but they wern't implimented as well as they could have been and the rest of the gameplay is rubbish for the type of game it portrays its self to be.

Back to PR for me.

CptStern made some great points, this game is about teamwork and gameplay, once you & your team have a good idea of whats going on there's some great games to be had.

HERE'S a newish video for you to have a look at

I was really hyped about this game, the screenshots looked amazing but the game looked no where near that quality, not only that but everyone runs at about 40mph, there is no stamina so everyone is bouncing off walls and roofs like some annoying moth on a street lamp. Team play... nah, more like rush and spam health/grenades/spray and what is with the sounds? I've never heard such horrible sound effects!

It's a weak game, highly over rated, I blame the media more than ID for falsly claiming it as the "Battlefield Killer" when it's a completely different game - it is mod for Quake, nothing more.

/Rant

Mutley I couldn't agree more the sounds in this game are enough to make not wanna buy the game yet alone the garbage gameplay and graphics!

Just played a few rounds with some friends, had a blast.

Not going to be buying this, but the demo should be enough for me really.

I enjoyed this very much.
I wasn't impressed by the first beta.Well,mainly the map to be honest.
The 2nd beta release and the new map changed my mind though.Not only did they improve the frame rate but the pace and over all experience of the game as well.
I like this game very much and i'd rather buy then BF 2142.
People calling this a BF 2 rip off, should play RTCW ET first.

I could throw around blame and say the game is shit or has bad production values - but the honest to god truth is I never found the ET series very captivating... it's just not my type of online FPS. I'm far too A.D.D. and with everyone bouncing off walls, throwing grenades in every which way, and millions of multi-colored icons representing different gameplay facets and objectives, I just tend to blow a fuse.

I guess I'll wait for a more simplistic, and certainly far less spastic FPS.

I can say spastic here, right? No political correctness police around?

The game is a beautiful step in the right direction for those who are fans of ET, it's a worthy sequel with extremely high production values, team-oriented gameplay and even twitch-based quake-style combat. I think of it this way; You put the following games in the blender: Quake III: Arena, Wolf ET, topped off with a little bit of Tribes (yes, I said Tribes - NOT Battlefield). And you get the bittersweet concoction that is Quake Wars. It has its niche, going into the game expecting it to play as advertised may be a disappointment. This is not the Battlefield killer, and is certainly not a next-gen fps. Instead, Quake Wars is just more Enemy Territory, on a larger scale with the addition of vehicles and a more multi-faceted teamplay and objective system. I'm sure you all know this - and some of you are surely still disappointed, but don't be afraid to get oriented with the team play aspects of the game before you judge it as a poor experience all together.

One interesting step in the right direction is the intentional imbalance of the teams, we don't really see this in its spiritual predecessor Wolf-ET. For instance the Strogg being able to use downed GDI soldiers as spawn points, the use of weapons that don't require reloading (but instead overheat, think convenant in Halo) and vast differences in transportation and vehicle design. Does this make up for the fact that essentially we are faced with the same cookie cutter enemy territory formula? No, but I think it's something game designers in general should look into; intentional imbalance is vital to the future success of large scale multi-player competitive shooters.

Something that makers of these types of shooters should definitely work on is making the sensation of shooting someone FEEL more fun, I can't emphasize this enough - take a queue from SOFII or even Goldeneye. I know I complain about this every time a new shooter comes out but I'm damn tired of this health bar RPG style nonsense of enemies not even flinching before collapsing on the floor like godamn crash-test dummies.

I give the demo an 8/10, it ran smooth as butter and delivered just what I thought it would - you just have to know exactly what type of shooter fan you are before you drop those 50 dollars (or spend that hour downloading the demo).

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Lovely: graphics (considering scale), DM paced combat in large environment, actual difference in teams other than aesthetics
Ugly: overwhelming to new adopters of ET, same tired ET gameplay, Id/SD hasn't changed death sequence animation since the 1990's
Download If: You're a fan of Enemy Territory games, which have really become a unique sub-genre on their own.
Do you mean 30fps smooth as butter ? Because the demo is framerate locked to 30fps, because that is the speed that the physics engine runs at, so they locked the rendering engine to the same rate as the physics engine (or something along those lines), so unless you unlock the framerate, you'll get 30fps at highest. Which whilst isn't too bad as there are zero framerate fluctuations on a half decent rig, giving the impression of fluid play, but it's too low for my liking and doesn't make it feel smooth.
Having said, you can unlock the fps using the console.
My only real gripe with demo is that it stutters like a mofo.
It takes like 15 minutes for the stuttering to end and then the game runs fairly smooth with a few hiccups here and there.
Just like to say, on my system the demo does look like the screenshots.
Meh. I just played the demo and thats what it felt like. Saying it was fast paced is an under statement. I was hoping for a more tactical game.
