I know the hdr9 vid had special hdr mode enabled and just about every other video DID NOT.

i was wondering if while playing hl2 (hopefully later this year), can i enable the super HDR mode which was enabled during hdr9.bink video?

i hope so it looked sweet as hell.

There's no "super HDR mode". It's just that in that video they intentionally took advantage of some HDR effects.

I think that video was more of a tech demo and I doubt we'll see anything like that in game. Also, in case you were confused at all, a lot of the effects in that video were just specular mapping and not HDR.

Hi Eric,

Whether HDR makes it in or not hasn't yet been decided. It's a feature that mainly the really high-end cards can use well and we have some other features we want to make sure get into the tech so that more people can benefit. If for some reason it doesn't make it for release, we'll be adding it in shortly after release.

As for CS quality, we are porting the games to HL2 so they will look like HL2 games so yes, we are making sure those games look as good as HL2 (within limits of course).

Thanks,
Rick

KICK. ASS. *is wanting to play HL1 in Source engine* I will pay good money for these ports. My bro will go ballistic when he can play CS in Source.

i was told HDR was not enabled in the 2004 e3 vid.

i just hope the hl2 releases with ability to turn it on.

It won't... Only the fastest Nvidia & ATI cards can run it smooth and there are so many people who don't have those card... They'll put it in, after a year or so in an update :)

*Looks forward to putting his 9800 Pro to good use*

really, most people that are planning on playing HL2 should be able to afford $200 for a 9800 Pro....

Yeah, from what I gathered in the info from valve thread, HDR isn't a priority for release, but they plan on having it available eventually through a patch or something.

I think you may be rather disapointed. I don't think the HL1 port is going to have any actual content upgrade. It will be ported over yes, but it will probably look just about identical to the original besides a few little things.

I'm planning on playing HL2 and I don't have a 9800. I have a 9600 SE and I'd be glad to see if I can play with HDR but I doubt it.

At the very least I will get a new video card, maybe not the latest, I'll just make sure it's fully DX9 complient.

i wanna say the reason why im asking but i dont wanna get banned.

ok ill say it.

i saw in another forum people were able to enable HDR in the leaked beta. it looked alot better.

Doubt THAT would get you banned. Cool that they found out how to enable it though.

you mention a bink HDR video? ive googled it and come up with nowt, id like to see it so anyone got a link or something for it?

cheers,
-Jim

That sucks because i'm getting a dogs bollocks computer for like £850 with the brand new ATI card and a load of other stuff that will just bore most people. This isn't me showing off by the by i am currently on a P3 550 so it is time for the upgrade.

Anyways i don't have broadband so getting these updates shall be bloody difficult for me, why are they going to put stinking HDR in later, it'll only be used in single player anyway so by the time the update is released people will have done most of it or finished the bloody thing. It makes no sense.....:flame:
