Question about making a 2nd account

I already have all the old Valve games unlocked on my 1st account, so I was thinking if I purchase the Silver HL2 Package it would be better to do that for a 2nd account so if I ever get banned I'll still have access to my 1st account's games.

Anyway, will the new account be able to share all the pre-loaded files I already have or will it dl them all over again. I am guessing it will share them, but I just want to make sure before I mess anything up.

Yeah the accounts will be able to share all the content, you'll just get a new subfolder inside steamapps with the new account name, holding all the configs etc..

I'm getting banned from aocab servers for a KeyGen violation after doing that... damn bastards.. their system is broken somewhere.. I DONT EVEN HAVE A DAMN CD KEY- THE THING IS ALL ON STEAM!! :flame: :flame:

Since HL2 and the original account would have two different keys how excatly could you have got banned?

And to fairuza: don't get banned. It's quite simple really. You know, like try not to break the law?

kirkburn: i have some news for you, it's possible to get banned for no reason other than valve is not perfect and are nazi-like in their banning sometimes.

when i tried to register my hl plat cd-key it told me it was already banned for cheating then had some help pages telling me it was basically either my fault for cheating or having someone hack my computer (snicker, who's the one who got their source stolen again?). of course both were not true and i never even installed this key on my computer despite owning it for years. it was locked away in a cabinet with some old comics i have. it was unopened and untampered with.

so my first experience ever with steam was being banned from the start, for doing nothing! i had to send in the front cover which i never got back depsite even including a pre-stamp self-addressed envelope. it took like 3 months for them to finally unlock the games that i paid for. wow, and now my game has no cover.

what a great experience. so forgive me for being paranoid. valve is in denial that thier system can be hacked. i've seen posts by doug claiming there is not one case of someone using a keygen to create a steam account, but i know that is what happened with my cd-key.

So what you are in effect saying is:

1. You weren't banned
2. There is no reason why you will be banned.

Erm, so why are you so paranoid about being banned?

You couldn't get the account cos someone used a keygen to steal your key. This isn't VALVe's fault.
Your HL2 key WILL work as there will be no working keygen when it is released.
And yes, VALVe got their source stolen. What's that gotta do with *anything*!?

EDIT:
Oh, and I just remembered, the keys have almost nothing to do with VALVe or Steam. It is in fact Vivendi/Sierra that need the talking to. They distributed the product, they give you the new key.

All discussion on why he might be getting banned: His idea does NOT sound stupid to me. I have 2 accounts, one was registered with my old Half-Life key, and the other one was with the ATI Voucher key.

Voila, I have two accounts and was very handy if I want to play Counter-Strike 1.6 with my brother. He simply logs in on the original account and I on the second one. Completely legal and very handy.

So if you wish to make 2 accounts, go for it. It can be quite handy.
