ok, so basically i'm trying to set up my sata as a master and my ide as a slave. currently my sata is my only drive that i'm running, because i've had alot of trouble setting up my ide as a slave, because when everything seems right in the bios and stuff... when i exit the bios windows doesn't boot it just gives my this message saying that i need to enter a harddisk or somthing.... i have no idea where to start i just been haveing problem after problem while trying to set up my drives.

any help would be apreciated.

The IDE drive must be set to master. SATA and IDE are two different things, so there can't be a Slave/Master relation between them. Another thing to note, SATA can't even be set to anything even if you have more than one SATA drive.

so... i kind of wanted my sata to be master since it's a raptor and fast but i can't do that? but if i have a raptor and another sata even if is not the same exact hdd then i can or can't run them both?

No no, your IDE drive will make NO difference to your SATA drive. Remeber SATA and IDE are two different things. Plus, SATA drives don't even have the jumper settings.

ok... so why wont windows boot when both my sata and ide drives are plugged in, it's like it thinks that my ide is the master even though in the bios it's set as a slave? If i got another sata drive would it work with my other sata, because i want to get something that works not waste my money? I'm thinking that maybe the two different interface types are confliction, but thats coming from my small knowledge of hdd set up, is that maybe whats happening?

Also master and Slave settings have nothing to do with performance even between two IDE drives. Think of it as 0 and 1, it's just and ID. Also, check in your bios and see if you have SATA or IDE set to boot first. If it's set to your primary (IDE) drive first and then SATA, that would explain why.

Wait, so you have just the SATA hard drive and the parallel one?

Plug the SATA drive into a SATA channel and set the other drive up as the master on the primary IDE channel. Go into your motherboard BIOS configuration utility and tell it to boot from whichever drive has your OS.

What other drives do you have?

What chipset you have? Find out and make a boot disk from the manufacturer's website. Then when you install Windows when it says "Press F6 for some type of drivers" you can press F6 while the floppy and install the drivers. Or if you just have the 1 SATA drive, disable the IDE port in the BIOS. Windows will boot from the SATA drive and it'll still recognize the IDE drive. That's how I have mine currently until I get my other 2 raptors to make 3:D:D

edit: I saw your chipset in ur sig. If you have the disk that came with your mobo it should have a utility to make the SATA driver disk. if not just go to the website.

so if i get another raptor will everything work fine when i try and boot since instead of having two different interfaces i will just have 2 sata's? That's what i'm thinking about doing...
Also to set the two drives in a raid do i have to start all over or can it just split up all the info i have currently on my drives.(do i have to start with 2 black drives?)

Its not a big deal that you have one IDE and one SATA, we aren't telling you to get another SATA raptor, but if you want another thats fine. You're perfectly fine the way it is now, just set your IDE drive to master if you haven't done so already.
