what is your reaction to music with english accents? does it sound strange? are there songs you don't understand, or lyrics? do you prefer it or prefer american accents etc..

just your general thoughts on it.

for example (i'll try and name some mainstream stuff) Lily Allen, the streets, coldplay (ugh) etc..

For the most part, people who speak English sing with approximately the same accent, so it's not really noticeable. That being said, when songs are sung with emphasis on one's accent, I enjoy the British accent more than American or Canadian. It seems smoother and more natural to me.

Coldplay's accent isn't terribly noticeable. Radiohead's is, but I love it.

Are you doing some sort of project on the perception of England?

I loathe a lot of American band's vocals..
EXCEPTIONS: Metric, The Decemberists, The New Pornographers, The Blood Arm

shame on you badger, lumping us canadians in with the americans: The New Pornographers are canadian

I like brit accents in music ..doesnt bother me at all ..although during the 80's there was a tendency for bbritish bands to sound a little too british ..it even caught on with non british acts

I guess Arctic Monkeys must sound quite strange to the americans.

Haha, I think Metric are too :p

Well that explains why I can stand them ;)

I LIKE those canadian bands!

Although, you guys are responsible for Broken Social Scene ... who aren't that good at all!

dont forget Celine Dion ..a source of national shame

you'd think Broken Social Scene would be much better than they are considering there's what? 30 odd members?

Broken Social Scene are a good band.

And I never notice the British accents. For some reason, the accent is only noticeable with shitty British bands. I don't know why it would sound strange though...never does to me.

I like English accents in general so, obviously, I like hearing them in music.

What! Broken Social Scene are incredible! They're represent Canada well. :)
I don't mind British accents at all.

Roger Waters has one of the best voices ever. Although, I can't say this from an American point of view, but if you don't like it then you suck.

Joking, it's your own choice, I just love his voice.

actually it's much easier to sing in an american accent than it is to sing in an english one. that's why alot of english people slip into american accents when they sing. e.g. that jazz guy, jaimy cullum i think, and also uh.. what are they called? 'busted'?
