Question on getting started...

Can anyone gimme me some advice on configuring hammer for hl2 without d/ling the entire sdk? Steam is telling me it's 220 mb and I'm on a 56k so I'd really like to stay away from that. Anything else I can do to get set up? Thanks in advance, fellas.

why dont you just sit and wait for it to download? if you get a 2 hour cut off then just reconnect to steam and it will resume.

I know a lot of 56k people that have managed to download it perfectly fine

the version ive got from steam is 316MB so i dunno where u got 200 from.

I could tell you the settings it uses in the configuration screen i suppose but i think it reads this from other files im not sure.

also if im not mistaken u need version 4.0 and the only way im aware of doing this is through steam. and i must say i cant blame um. it stops people using illegal copies and cd keys

You really can't get away without installing the SDK. If you want to map, mod, etc. you have to install it. Try running the download overnight or while you are doing something time-consuming.
