okay, i've been out of this for a while now, and don't know much about the new stuff. i was looking around on the forums & it looks like the radeon 9800 is still a great card. i havent played anything more graphics intense than UT2004 at the moment, and it runs well. i have a 256mb card right now, it's an nvidia card, i think its an FX5700(?) but not positive. anyways, i upgraded all my other stuff & wanted to know about video cards. first, i want to know what's gonna give me great HL2 support. also, what's gonna work for a while into the future? i don't wanna have to upgrade constantly. what's a good decision that is going to last me a while?

I'd recommend the BFG TECH GeForce 6800U OC, if you are an NVIDIA guy.

But if you prefer ATI, go with the ATI X800 XT.

*You will be dishing out some major cash for both of these high-end cards.

how about a reasonably priced card that will last me? HL2 is probably the most graphics intense game i'll be playing. will a 9800 work or is that not enuf? if so, which one? i have an nvidia card right now, but i have no loyalty. i'll buy whatever works better.

The nvidia 6800 (not gt or ultra) is very good value its £180 in Uk (about $300) and performs better than the 9800pro and 9800xt.

calc, you see all those bink videos? Those are taken from 9800 PRO and max 9800 XT .

Get a 9800 PRO you'll be able to play hl2 on max settings and will last you about 1 year or hopefully 2. It costs only $180

The ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 128 MB RAM should be perfectly suited for you if you are looking for a reasonable priced that card that will last you awhile.

Umm... Not ATI Radeon, that's the "basic basic". Get a Sapphire Radeon 9800 Pro 128 mb if you're getting one. More performance, same price.

Well if HL2 is the most graphicly intensive game and you're on a budget, the 9800p will deff. do great. HL2 really doesnt require a lot of juice though, doesnt look that great either :p

Uh, they all use the R350/360 core....the sapphire ones do tend to overclock better though.
