I recently acquired an ATI 9800 pro that I installed on my computer. The game still runs pretty crappily, and I am told that is my Celeron processor that is causing the problems.

Here are my specs
Intel Celeron Pentium 4 1.7ghz
AX4B PRO 533 R1.00 Motherboard (it's an A-open I believe)
512 MB RAM
ATI Radeon 9800 pro
Windows ME
Avance AC97 Audio Sound Card

I'm pretty sure my ram is DDR, but I'm not sure how to check.
So I'm thinking I'll by a new processor.....Is this a good idea? And if so, what processor is ideal for running HL2 well? AMD Athalon?

Any answer I can get would be great.

If you got an Athlon you'd have to get a new motherboard. Although that motherboard looks old, you're probably best off getting a new motherboard and then yes go with Athlon. If you could afford it an Athlon 64 and decent mobo for it would be perfect.

Your ram will almost certainly be DDR although i cant be sure. As for an upgrade you can upgrade your CPU as far as a P4 3.06GHz in which you should see a massive improvement in performance. there are also 2.8GHz and 2.6GHz variants of the p4 that will work on your motherboard but you HAVE to make sure they are the Northwood B core CPU's that work on the 533MHz bus otherwise they wont work correctly with your motherboard...
